yanks are making some good moves imo.

we will be looking good pitching wise if we have the following

Sabathia, Wang, Pettite, Sheets, and Burnett - Starting Rotation
Hughes and Kennedy as middle relief / injury fill-in
and Joba as the setup man / injury fill-in.

I agree. I would much rather see Joba as the setup man than a starter.

I'm not sure the Yanks are going to get Burnett and Sheets. But I'd be happy with Huges or Joba in the starting rotation.

Zany, I think that was in Tampa, where it went over the catwalk and hit the back of the dome. He's a good hitter who adds power to the lineup.

True. If they had petitte, sheets and burnett in their rotation, someone would be on the DL at some point. They are still high on kennedy. I am not. I find his stuff mediocre. They should have traded him when his stock was high. Hughes on the other hand is going to be real good.

I agree with domboski that hughes will be a quality starting pitcher for the yankees. He has tons of potential and he has been lights out in the Arizona fall league where he is working on regaining his form.

Hughes went 2-0 with a 3.00ERA in seven AFL starts, but if you take out his disastrous outing on Oct. 18 in which he allowed seven runs in 2-2/3 innings, Hughes posted a 0.99 ERA in his other six games. He struck out 38 batters in 30 innings, routinely hitting 94-95 mph with his fastball - something he didn't do during his time with the Yankees last season.

Yankees are moving in the right direction with their pitching staff. I do believe joba would be better in the bullpen and work to become the future closer for the yankees. Use the formula that has worked for the yankees in the past, clutch hitting, excellent pitching and untouchable bullpen(Rivera, Wetteland)

I have been high on Hughes since he came up. I agree with Domboski that Kennedy should have been traded while a team was willing to take him. If our rotation is Wang, Sabathia, Pettitte, Burnett and Hughest that is real solid.

They could actually let these guys grow together and form a TEAM like the Yankees had from 1994 - 2001.

7 years and he gets the option to leave... Too me it's another example of a dumb Cashman decision. Sabathia is a good pitcher but I would have pushed for a 3 year deal...... I hope I'm Wrong.

if he does choose to opt-out it's only because he does not want to play for NY anymore. there is still 92M left for 4yrs, who would pick that up, especially he is in his 30s. Huges and Joba would be ready for top 2 so let him go

hmm..not sure if this deserves its own thread

but anyway AJ Burnett has agreed to a 5 year deal with the yankes

5 years 82.5 million

so far rotation looks like this:

CC Sabathia
AJ Burnett
Chien Ming Wang
Joba Chamberlain

5th starter might be Pettite, if he decides to take less money..or it can Hughes or who knows, Yanks might try to sign Ben Sheets to a 2 year contact
