I do have to agree with duke that not only the title is offensive but also some of the comments made.

.....Of course it is only good if you don't have a job and are retired like me. If I had a job then I would have to think about loseing it and if I had a mortgage I would have to figure out how to pay it and if I diden't already pay for my daughter's college, I would also have a problem....

...So for most people, it stinks which is the reason the stores are empty. It even helps my business.....So when the economy gets worse, I do a little better....

That's awesome Paul! If you mean my post about caddyshack I meant up until the part the priest got struck by lightening of course I was going to use Ice Cube's song "Today was a Good day" but I figured you wouldn't know that one

Yes Regal I agree that those comments can be offensive as well but Duke did not mention them as his points of concern. Really though, Paul's comments were not wishes of bad things to other people. He clarified that later in the thread.

If so, PM me the posts with the comments you found offensive and what you found offensive about them and we'll consider your thoughts. There is value IMO to what Paul was trying to say but clearly it has gone off track.

In general, I think it would be interesting to get an idea on how others feel things like this should be moderated.

I'm not getting upset at all Duke. I was probably the first mod to point out some of the comments that could be taken the wrong way. I am more trying to understand everyone's perspective. I do this for a living by coming back with more questions and a different perspective. That's also why I'm interested in your thoughts and recos for cleaning up the thread. Understanding different members perspectives and thoughts is important to me and this site. I wish I had the intuition to understand everyone right away. There is some good points made here from everyone.

Now I'd like input on what we can do to clean this thread up. I'd prefer PM because we will end up having to delete a ton of posts.

I know a company like Toyota makes cars here which is great for the workers of Toyota, they have a job but all the profits from Toyota are sent to Japan. That money used to stay here. See all those foreign cars on the road? More than half the cars here were made some place else and as an American we have the choice to buy what we want, but all of those millions of cars were at one time built by tens of thousands of Americans who now have no job. I used to work for GM as a mechanic.

me personally i found nothing offensive in this thread, till the latter parts of it. you can't please everyone all the time. i think we have bigger issue's to worry about then someone being offended, personally i think that's one of the down falls of this country. to easy to offend people and now sueing over being offended and laws being created so people's feelings dont get hurt, i can't even wish people a merry christmas at work because some might be offended. this isnt directed in either direction towards anyone, and i took pauls post as seeing how bad things are and are getting there isa few bright spots you see along the way

I am back from the hospital now and trying to comprehend the things I saw.
They were not good.

Duke I am Sicilian and a Veteran and I can't be offended, it is just me.

I really hope no one took my thread on some good deals to mean I wished people to be out of work. The economy sucks for everyone.

I'm not trying to stir the pot I disagree with anyone's post being changed.

If nothing else, this thread woke up a lot of people. I made some friends and half the world hates me :tongue1: Such is life.
Anyway if your going to buy Christmas lights, (yes I know only if you can afford them) the LED lights come with a rebate. Of course they are still three times the price of the cheap lites and yes I know they are all made in China (I'm gritting my teeth) They hardly use any power and if you like, after Christmas you can bunch them all up, tie them in knots and stick them in your tank hood so you can tell everyone you have Reef Led's

To put some things into perspective last night I went with about a dozen people to NYU hospital where they have a cancer floor for the kids with brain cancer that other treatments fail. Only about 5% of the kids make it out of there and they are there with their families. There were about 30 kids there and maybe 5 or 6 of them were new borns.
We brought two gourneys of toys which were all donated. The people with us tried to figure out what each child would want and I would give it to them. Most of them are much too weak to take the toy or even open their eyes but I did get a smile from almost all of them.
I know as we all do that the economy sucks and probably will get worse before it gets better but there are always people who have it much worse. We may be having trouble buying gifts for our kids but a lot of kids have too many gifts but are too sick, too close to dying to worry about that. All the parents stay in the hospital with the kids, many of these children have misshapen heads and large scars from the brain surgery. The rest of them I can't even describe.
I am sorry for this depressing post but it takes a while to get this out of my head. I do this every year and every year I say it will be the last time. My daughter was also a volunteer and I kept looking at her and seeing how beautiful and healthy she is and I kept thinking how lucky many of us are for the things we have.
This year was the first time I lost it also. I can't describe this little girl or her Mother's happyness at seeing Santa but I will always remember her.
