Actually both the title of the thread and the last sentence of the OP simply ask about ' anything being made in ' the U.S., not just furniture.
Anyways - Toseik, I am very informed about the U.S. pharmaceutical industry and dont think of them as angels but do you really think generic drug makers in or out of the U.S. make drugs out of the goodness of their heart? They do it for profit. Nothing wrong with that, as long as they play by the rules. After all this is the U.S., not Communist Russia. Heck, even Communist China has seen the wisdom of, and adopted, the capitalist model.

I don't see anyone complain about stuff made in Europe (think Ikea). And you think Ikea furniture ain't cheap? It seems that ppl only complain when things are made in Asia. Ugh...

Also, when they say it's made in China, it's really just engineered in the US, and let the cheap Chinese labor crank out the final products. If everything was actually produced in the US, someone would probably ***** about "Why is everything so expensive in the US?"

Btw my skimmer is made in Hong Kong and it kicks ass. Those who has seen it can vouch for that.

why the hell does it always come down to union labor.what us union men and woman pride themselves on making a decent living and not wanting to live in a 1 bedroom apt with a family so freaking wrong.look at a documantary on workers in other countrys making 3 dollars an hour and see how they live you want americans to live the same way.just remember if it wasnt for american unions other occupations in this country would not be making a decent living either.your minimum wage is based upon what unions are paid.just remember its the american union men and woman that built this country and now we are competing against illegal immigrants who are taking less, working off the books and are creating higher taxes for all americans.

Don't forget about globalization because that Union member demanding X dollars per hour can easily lose his/her job to the guy in the third world country only asking for 1/20th of X. And since now there is no more work for that Union member they can only afford to buy stuff that's made in cheap labor countries.
It's not just illegal immigrants in this country that are taking away jobs, They also are suffering from globalization enough that immigrants can't even find jobs anymore.
Illegal immigrants are just the scape goats for every problem in the US, since it's foundation, because they have no voice. The real problems are the shifts in era's and the people that cannot change with them. Look to the Civil War era shift for the same old tired arguments against immigrants (Irish, Italians, Chinese, etc).

oh hmmmm okay whatever.the reason why jobs are going overseas is not because the cooperation is not making any money here they just want to make even more.every cooperation that has shipped jobs overseas has made a profit with the company in the us.the greedy corperation wants to make more and put more profits into their pockets not the workers remember that.if cooperations made no money in the us then why does foreign car companies have plants in the US.every union company i have ever worked for makes a profit.and its not the same old arguments check the facts there are many non union construction companies and most of the companies that hire illegals pay there workers off the books which not only raises taxpayers taxes every year but also raise the union contractors insurance.and a union job site has to hire people that are not needed on a job site from safety managers to safety coordinators and a union contractor has to buy safety gear which raises a union contract by millions of dollars not because the union wants them but the insurance dept makes them while a non union company has no regulation on safety and there are no safety monitoring on there jobs at all.all because they fall into a different bracket of construction...WHY i dont know.anf remember this a union man has health coverage which he pays into every year and every paycheck while these non union workers are using tax payers money for there coverage and who pays those bills....YOU.i am done with this conversation.i feel as though unions are under attack and people who do not understand or have any knowledge on union workers speak before researching which pisses me off.my grandfather my father and i are all union men who have raised there kids with pride not only for there union but for there work.before people speak know what u are talking about.look around the city to all the beautiful buildings and bridges realize all these buildings and bridges were built by union workers.all the companies have profited from them and many union men gave there lives for them.

nothing personal duke, but unions didnt build american, i grew up in a family of union working's in alot of fields, trucking, automotive, electrical, mason's, union labor wages are part of the american down fall, decent wages ? so you feel your union job is worth twice to three times the amount of what someone doing your job thats non-union ? do i feel i am worth more then i make ? yes. higher wages = higher cost of product. how many union guys on your site are recieving a pay check and never been on the job site ? how many union workers on a road crew actually work ? 20 there 3 working 17 collecting a over paid paycheck for watching. unions started out with the right purpose, they it got greedy and drove the work force and jobs outside of america. look at rca. went to mexico along with alot of other's. alot of foreign brands that are made in the usa are only made here because of a trade agreement, we will allow you to bring x amount of import stuff in as long as we can build some of it also, { honda } toyota } nissan } america got greedy wanting more and more, { who doesnt } but when we got fat, lazy and over paid, others stepped in.

i have no idea what u are talking about either.i dont know any person collecting a paycheck doing nothing..people hear other people speaking so they now know everything.give me an example of a construction trade that does nothing.prove to me u know what u are talking about please.so what you are saying is just because some person who grew up in a third world country who lived in a shanny comes to this country and makes 10 dollars an hour doing construction and now can afford to buy kmart clothes and is willing to take that pay and live with 3 other families cause its better then what they ever had so an american should stoop to that.so what u are saying instead of moving forward in this country and taking people out of the lower income bracket and receive medical insurance that we are hurting america

FYI - Many of the foreign based companies with factories in the US ( Toyota is the one that comes to mind immediately ) dont allow unionization in their plants and dont give many benefits ( read health insurance, pension ) which allows them to price their products lower since their overhead is lower.

I dont think unions are to blame for all our trouble. They have their place and they do good and they do bad. There are many factors involved and it would be oversimplifying to lay the blame all on one.

and those men u see on the sides of the roads doing nothing are state supervisors and state road inspectors and safety men.if there was any workers on my crews doing nothing they would be fired.so when u are driving past these construction crews just keep that in mind

duke you havent made sense in anything you have said, immigrants are the one's who built the u.s, including a good portion of all the buildings in nyc, italians, irish and so on right off the boat. i dont know everything, but like i said i grew up in a family of all union workers. and you missed the point higher wages = higher cost of item. so if you owned a company would you hire a guy for $50 {union}t t knows no more then the guy only needing $20 non union ? never met a union person { i know alot of them in different trades } that didnt always think they were better then someone who wasnt union. UNION = DOWN FALL OF AMERICA, whether you want to see it or not. you really think come strike time when they are after more money for you and them, they care if your starving because you cant work ? think they will say hey, here's some money to survive on till we negotiate more money ? i watched my father not be able to ork for 4 months while they were trying to negotiate for meer dollars, thank goodness we always saved all our change, cause thats what fed us.

simply minded, blind to the obvious, so it takes 10 guys to fill a pot hole in ? 3 workers and 7 waste, duke so you know, i do have a construction back ground, past up a union job, i do understand how the system works, went to colleg for business management, went for my c.a.d degree, have family in politic's. so i am not just shooting off at the mouth about stuff i have no clue about, your monthly due's goes to what duke ? you pay how much a month ? tims that by how many workers ? how much money do you think the union is profiting off all of you, do you think the union reps are worth 4 times a year what you make ?
