Hey all,

It is my friends bachelor party this weekend, and in his infinite wisdom he has decided that he wants to play paintball up in the Catskills. Now there are a few problems with this...

1. Good Jewish Boys like myself don't really like dirt, mud, and nature in general quite honestly.
2. The idea of being wet/muddy/lost in the woods, and then getting friking shot...well, i think it sounds kinda terrible.
3. The idea of having to shoot somebody while wet/muddy/lost in the woods sounds equally terrible.

So, since there seem to be a few avid paintballers on the site, can anyone give me some advice on:

1. what to expect
2. what to wear or not wear
3. how not to get shot (i probably should have put this first)
4. why the hell people do this in the first place :irked:

thanks in advance all!

J.

The only piece of advice I can give just might be the most helpful - To reduce the sting of the paintballs, I've noticed that layering seriously decreases the blow!

Actually another good piece of advice is to find a good spot to "snipe" from with minimal exposure.

Ok here's the ultimate cheaters guide for paintballing if you don't like to get hit. Wear a puffy jacket, one with a lot of feather padding so when something hits it the jacket will slow down the balls and not pop them. Wear ski pants again same puffy concept. Wear a couple of fanny packs around your waist so when the paintballs bounce off they'll be collected in the packs (Yeah free ammo!!!). Wear nice ski gloves too. And most importantly WEAR A CUP! (just in case)

And hopefully you don't die of heat stroke. Extremely loose fitting clothes work better in the summer for this, but you'll feel the hits.

Expect everything that you hear, to be unrealistic. Paintballs do not hurt, they only sting. Well that is unless you tend to get shot from up close.

Clothes, try to not wear anything tight. Wearing tight clothes, you will expect to feel the hit a bit more. Stay on the lines of oversized clothes (paintball trick). An extra Tshirt will help, but do not go crazy as you will sweat. Dehydration is a B....

Want to avoid getting shot? Best thing to do is not try and focus on one thing or one area. Always keep your eyes open and alert to your surroundings. Believe it or not, when you see paint being shot at you, you can literally see the paintballs flying towards you. So avoid the area where they are shooting towards.

It is an adrenaline sport. Some people like jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, some people like to jump off of perfectly good cliffs. Just like anything else, it is fun to do.
