DIY Standpipes - what one is best?

Hi all.

I setup my 75 and let me tell you, the thing sounds like Niagra falls. I went to dursostandpipes.com and was going to build a solution. Are there any better standpipe designs out there to try or is Durso the best design? What do you guys use?

Stockman pipes work pretty good and take up less room than Durso's.

my issue was that I have the return line screwed into the other bulkhead, so I dont think I would be able to turn the durso pipe with the other pipe that's in there already. You guys know what I mean?

Do a search For Ken Stockman pipe. It will fit.

hmm that looks like the ticket... it looks like this can fail, though. Can you build it without the end cap, so if worse comes to worse the water goes down the top? Or no

and is why Durso is a better (read safer here) solution.

Stockman is the quietest, but durso is safer and less complicated (IMO)

maybe ill build it with the flexy PVC so I can pivot the elbow, this way I can screw the pipe into the threaded bulkhead. Yes, the durso confuses me much less. What do you think? Use the flex PVC?

no, the drain should be rigid - not sure what you mean by screw it in. if the bulkhead is threaded on the inside, you'll need to get a male threaded adapter and adjust the durso level by the depth you decide to screw in the adapter. The pipe you can use teflon tape to secure into the adapter. Should be an easy assembly.

because I have the return pipe already screwed in the other bulkhead, I just dont see how I would be able to turn the standpipe into the other bulkhead without hitting the other pipe with the T and elbow connectors. hence why I was thinking flexible. Am i missing something? (very possible)

I have used this system and it is flawless. If at all possible to implement....you should try it. Or at least read about it....:splitspin

could you take the bulk head out and screw the durso tube into the bulk head then place the pipe and bulkhead in and just tighten the bulkhead lock

I used the hoffman one and liked it. in 2 years it never had a problem and it is virtualy silent and can be retuned as needed.

lol....no it would not work....but it is by far the best overflow I have owned or constructed...Bolth in functionality, dead silence and backup safety. Durso's work great. I would definitely use that for your tank. Simple and effective.
