Live Sand and/or Substrate

I am curious what is the best substrate and/or live sand to use on my future coral reef tank setup. I would like the white sand that I see in many tanks in this site. I was informed that I should just get live sand for the top 1" layer and the rest should be substrate and will become live in time. Thanks for your advice.

no need to spend your money on live sand, buy plain sand and get a cup full from a member

yeah sure when u need it?? i am taking my tank down but i have get out some the lr and then i can give some of the sand send me a pm so i dont forget about u
