just wondering the importance of a uv sterilizer, or can i continue with out one...

If you have a FOWLR tank it can be helpful to minimize parasites, but in a reef tank it is usually detrimental to the overall tank biodiversity.

Never knew this but it makes sense somehow. just to let u know i had s uv sterilizer hooked up to my reef system and the bulb died 7 months never hooked it back up and my tank is doing fine

ok cool, thats for the info.... i just wanted to make sure the fish are not going to get sick.... i heard the illness ick can wipe the hole tank out

Ich can definitely wipe a tank out...fish wise. But the UV kills pods and possibly the little bits of live phyto in the water. I suggest using a QT tank to avoid getting Ich in the first place and you will be much better off.

A qt tank is a smaller tank, that is set up in advance, that you would pit all new fish in. They woulkd stay there for 4-6 weeks so you can observe them. If you do notice ich or other diseases, then you would treat. Its better to treat in the qt because most med you cant run in the DT( because of the corals) HTH
