The truth is that the MAC first tried to discredit the reliability of the CDT testing, and when that failed they spread false rumours about the reliability of the sampling.

Reform is coming (albeit slowly). The IMA is willing to work in a constructive manner with government agencies, the MAC, other NGOs, the aquarium trade, and the marine hobby to solve these problems.

Peter, am I correct in assuming that MAC does not wish to work with IMA? And in your opinion, why did MAC try to discredit and then spread false rumors about the CDT testing?

I want to sincerely thank you for answering questions and sharing the IMA information with us. I'm beginnning to get a much clearer picture of how complicated these reform issues really are. I also believe there is certainly an element of Third World Countries not wanting to be told how to do things by the West also in play.(per personal communication with Andy Bruckner)

The FBI and CIA don't even work together to solve criminal and national security cases. Research scientists refuse to share secrets that might lead to the cure for terrible diseases because money is involved. We live in an imperfect world and to expect different from the marine idustry would be foolhardy.

Hey guys,
Do we find ourselves "working together' with business competitors very often? How are you all getting along with the PetCo down the street?
The inability to work together may just be an indicator that the players are money focused business competitors and little more.
People of passion and commitment who share the same dream, the same goals and the same vision don't have as much problem cooperating and really working together as a team.
The question is what leadership and what team is honest enough and sincere enough to pursue a goal higher then themselves? To date, none have arisen.
I have never been more than a volunteer or a very low paid trainer in the 20 year history of this thing. I have never been in charge of anything and never handled a budget.
Power, money and control were always in the hands of others. When I realized how very, very different my goals were from the leadership of the groups that used me, I had to resign.
Kinda like Rosemary Woods, Nixon's secretary ..."what did she know and when did she know it ?"
For professional reasons, one cannot take part in things they know to be wrong or illegal.
So, I'm still looking for the right leadership and the right group to put my faith and trust in.
FBI or CIA? How bout neither. We need a new one!

I'm flattered by the attention, but I'm a collector and have to be gone half the time. Most retailers can't leave for 3 days much less three weeks.
If I ever get bit in the ass [ can I say that?] by a shark and couldn't dive anymore, its worth thinking about but thats not going to be for awhile.
Going direct is what we already do with our LFS's and the opportunity may be there for some of them to tap into this netcaught direct sentiment and consolidate their buying power and buy more netcaught fish.
Theoretically, the lack of netcaught blue tangs was supposed to create demand and spur the training that makes them available... Problem is, none of the training groups seem to grasp the importance of variety in fish supply... something that real fish people find a simple truth. Unless we solve the training debacle and sponsor more professional efforts to produce them, there's still not going to be any netcaught bluetangs to sell direct or anywhere else!
Since resigning all posts, for professional reasons of conscience, I haven't been involved in net training in the Philippines for 9 years now. If I was,

obviously would've front loaded blue tangs, clown triggers and the classic angels for priority reform.

Obviously wouldn't allow exporters to offer up their own fishes for cyanide testing and wouldn't let those exporters fool anyone like a....like a UN weapons inspector. Its so easy to fool outsiders and this is perhaps a Manila exporters greatest skill, having done it so many times!

Dr. Rubec produced a more credible cyanide test than we may ever know...it just wasn't followed up on and implemented as it was intended to be...Then again, he wasn't there, wasn't in charge and wasn't calling the shots...SOMEONE ELSE WAS. Sounds like a familiar story.
