Wade, yes, I read his response before posting, several times, and have gone back and read again. I still fail to see how this person saying he finds something sad about another person (in his observation) is a personal attack. More than likely we have here an issue of semantics, and it seems I'm not using the same "coloring stick" as you are in this situation. I've reread the UA in hopes of furthering my understanding, as well.

I cannot agree more, that this and some other threads have recently become QUITE heated, and it must be toned down. I do think it's primarily the responsibility of the moderator to do the "toning", though, not just the other participants. How will this person be able to rein in others if this person fails to rein in themselves? I'd like to point out, though, that I've seen what I, personally, considered to be worse coming from others (won't name names) as well. If they were warned privately, then I apologize, my bad.

I've done my own best to be as encouraging as possible, I am quite serious when I say I do not want to see a unique and useful forum shut down. I do think that if this dissention continues in such a manner, though, it will at the very least dry up on the vine. John, please know that I'm behind your best efforts. I'm very hopeful that everything can be sorted out.

So, did the apology come from jorcutt, or his boss? ;)

Please do not construe the following as inflammatory, because it is not meant to be. However, I will not be apologizing. I have not initiated personal attacks, nor do I intend to. I've stated my position earlier in the thread, no need to repeat it, but I stand by it. Any criticisms I've had are for MAC, an organization that wishes me to join it, and in my opinion, that gives me the right to scrutinize it before I buy it. Any comments or feelings made toward RDO or the moderator of this forum were in response to what I maintain was a personal attack made against myself and my business. I did not initiate the thread, but I'm certainly not going to sit idly by for a week and let unfounded accusations against me go unchallenged. RDO has been quick to intervene in comments made within this thread by others, about others, when the poster is not a designated moderator. I eagerly await RDO's official response to all of this.

Again, respectfully and patiently,

Jenn

I find John Brandt's initial comment on this thread to be very similar to Jamesw's comments in this thread.

http://reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=30087

If John's initial posting is found by the reefs.org administrative staff to be offensive may I recommend that the names in the greeting be replaced with "For non-MAC people selling what they believe to be net caught fish".

I just wonder what would happen to this forum if MAC's director lodged a formal complaint about direct comments made about them to the reefs.org administrative staff?

JennM,

We have like 10 admins - just about each one of them has drafted a response to your request...:) When we have something that we think is a "unified position" for reefs.org you will be the first to see it I'm sure...:)

Sciguy: We provide a forum for discussion for others. Ultimately, it is the individual people who post here that are responsible for what they say. If MAC or any other organization has a problem with what is said here, their first course of action should be to email or send a private message to the person in question. It is not our policy to censor people - we believe everyone should work things out between themselves - that's what this forum is all about.

Cheers

It's either a duck or not a duck. It worries me that this is such a difficult call to make, on an issue that on the surface, seems very black-and-white. Seems there is no problem slapping others' hands in this thread. I've read and re-read the entire thing more times than I can count, just to make sure I've not overstepped the rules of decorum myself. I don't believe I have, despite the uncharactaristically tardy response by the administrators to what I (and others) perceive to be a 'no-brainer'. Read my posts in this thread. I didn't start responding until well into page 2, responding to a thread in which the initial post called me out by NAME, and at that I was very careful in my choice of words, as I have been in each subsequent response, both public and private. Other than expressing disappointment and disgust, I did not attempt to engage anyone, or return the attack. I did attempt to apply the stated logic to the other side of the argument, as did others. I did defend my own integrity, as well anyone in my position could be expected to do, and would do so again in a similar circumstance. I am trying very hard to understand why the same courtesy is not being afforded to me, as is being administered to others in this forum. Something like that could lead someone to draw the wrong conclusions, I think. I'm sure that the "official" statement will clear up any misunderstandings and wrong conclusions. Won't they?

I guess the whole thing IS becoming larger than life, because we're all on the edge of our seats. It's not often that I can log onto this forum and see so many members viewing the forum at one time! It just serves to make whatever outcome, all that more dramatic. In my opinion, at the onset of my complaint, it really wasn't that big of a deal. It was something that was easily and quickly resolvable. It appears I was wrong about that.

Intrigued...

James I very happy you feel that way. Free speech is what makes our country and this forum great. If someone truly oversteps the boundaries we have a court of law to deal with the ensuing libel and slander issues. We should all be careful not to intentionally offend. We probably do enough by accident.
