My personal opinions about these companies have nothing to do with this and nothing to do with whether or not they donate to MACNA. My whole point was let's not be so quick to publicly bite the hand that indirectly feeds us.

Are y'all now gonna boycott Marineland because of this ad? Or Aquarium Systems because it appeared in SeaScope?

Truthfully, Mary, I don't quite understand your hostile tone when you KNOW I've never played the politics game.

If anyone was going to boycott anyone because of their advertising they would have done it a long time ago. I don't ever recall having a customer that wanted to put 50 tangs in their 30 gallon aquarium just because that is what is on the box. I mean come on really !

None of us condone what is on the box and most of us will tell customers right off the top that the picture on the box is a crime. And some of us will even tell our rep. that they need to change the picture on the box. But the fact is that we can't get a better product for the price (MarineLand).
Most consumers making that much of an investment will do research before buying and hopefully they will talk to people like us (hobbyists/LFS owners/maintenence people/Deuce Bigalow) before making the plunge and not rely on the "picture on the box" for their information.

Heh, you'd be suprised by the number of newbies we have pop on our chat channel #reefs and get upset at us because we weren't validating what their LFS told them they could do (overstock tank, etc). Happened to me again just last night. FWIW, we haven't really seen the same thing happen on our board, which seems kinda strange. :shrug:

Nancy, I wasn't being hostile. You were saying we should not harp on Marineland because they do good for the hobby- donating to MACNA for example. I was just trying to determine if that was the criteria for it being ok to display irresponsibility. I'm not boycotting anything. The only point I'm trying to bring up is that MAC and Marineland are doing basically the same thing as Tetra, but they aren't being called to task about it. I find that curious.

And what's so curious about the fact that I choose not to boycott or slam ANY of these companies? The fact that I don't follow the vocal, always angry with something or somebody crowd here maybe??? Sorry but that innuendo didn't sit well either.

The posts weren't directed at you personally, Nancy. I read the first one and do see how it could be interpreted that way and I apologize if you took it that way. It's just that in general I find it curious the things hobbyists are accepting of and not accepting of. I'm not angry with Tetra or Marineland or you for that matter. Please don't take my comments personally.

Well now I'm just waiting for someone to scream "Boycot Petco!" as Katie Kurrick (sp?) just had someone from Petco show how to setup a 10 gal A.ocellaris tank w/ 5-8 clownfish in it.

I say boycott Disney! They brought all this attention to our hobby. We were just fine without all this attention! Nevermind all the new and potentially long term customers that might be created by this Movie! (Oh wait this is the industry forum don't care about money) BTW I think Sydney shouLD boycott Disney also since they portrayed the harbor as dirty! Oh wait the LOSG (Lovers of Sea Gulls) should boycott Disney also becuase we all know sea gulls can say more than MINE MINE MINE! Best reason of ALL is we can easily find a partner in the even mannered Religious Right because they Boycott Disney for having Gay Days!

:twisted: Well, why don't the importers and exporters refuse to sell to these guys? Will they go to the trouble of setting up their own collection stations? Will any breeders have the balls not to sell to them for their twisted purpose? I don't know. I think the execs and scumbags behind this idiotic, greedy, and irresponsible scheme should have to eat every clownfish that dies while being berated by some Peta group chairman. Disney has been under fire before over animal treatment. Tetra, are they still making fish products? I don't see anything they make really useful for the saltwater hobby @ all. Maybe it is different in Germany. Their food sucks, my fish would never eat it. They don't make salt or skimmers so what was their Nemo tank going to use for filtration? I didn't get to see the broadcast so I don't know. Maybe I've said too much, but we are the best police our hobby has. Our industry knows how the repeat customers feel about this kind of thing. Get on board,you will probably find out what it's like to cater to a bunch of hobbyists who have a span of about 1-3 weeks when all their clownfish die. This craze is just that. Anyone who had a Dalmation was gladly giving the damn things to anyone who would take the inbred daffy bas*rds. If only their had been a raging alcoholic w/ some real fashion issues to take the "Dalmos" off of biten and disillusioned families across America. Glass of water and exit stage left.
