All of a sudden I see these small, relatively cheap, coral colonies showing up in abundance on the market. I think I recall seeing that they were from Bali via China? Were they farmed? If so were they in situ farmed or from a wharehouse or greenhouse operation? Were they ethically collected? Was the broodstock ethically collected?

Thanks in advance.

Bali via China? I wonder why everyone thinks all this stuff is coming from China? The Malasian RBTA were given docunments in Singapore. The Bali corals are coming from Bali, or at least all the ones we've gotten were from there. They're pumping them out at offerring them at lot discounts pricing. Buy a 1000 and save!!! They were farmed in situ. As far as the rest of the questions, you'd really have to see them do it, to answer them.

Are you sure they are farmed? Industry wants hobbyists to think they are farmed.
The ones I have seen appear to be wild coral chipped into very small pieces. Do they look like small chips SciGuy?

Yikes,
And a cement base surrounding a plastic core at that!
Steve
PS. Far from the salvation predicted else where...domestic, farmed coral will flood the market soon and be not such a big deal.
Of course the farming of coral is a good thing...but the saturation of product and the flooding ie. ruining of the market with thousands and thousands of them endlessly, especially in the summer slow period...will begin to bore hobbyists and make them seek the next best thing to satisfy their attention span.
If the next cool thing is also farmed...great.
PS.
When will the first e-tailer advertise...?
Extra, extra...Bali farmed coral ...10 for $100.00 Get em here!

You're talking about something completely different. The cultured stuff from Bali in the U.S. market hasn't made it into Vancouver yet.

That is why I asked SciGuy to take a good look at the frags he is asking about.

Gresham, Vitz I can see why you are concerned and therefore rude. You would rather sell those big wild ones right?

Nope, couldn't be more wrong neasco. I was reacting to your statement that "Industry wants hobbyists to think they are farmed." THEY ARE FARMED, you had no idea what you were commenting on. You claimed it was a conspiracy by "the industry" to dupe hobbyists into thinking Bali was farming 100 of thousands of aquacultured corals when in reality it (the industry) was just chopping and gluing a bunch of wild corals and saying they were farmed. You spoke as if it was a truth known by YOU that the industry wasn't farming corals in Bali. The truth is, theres a BUNCH of corals farms in Bali and more to come. Guess what, Bali isn't the only country doing it either. Coral farms are popping up ALL over the place. I'm stoked. You have to live in a friggin hole (just check the sponsers of this forums webpages, BALI AQUACULTURE is written all over the place) to think otherwise.

I have a noval idea for you neasco, learn the subject PRIOR to accusing of a conspiracy.

I know of 4 and keep hearing of others about to come on line. Theres 4 different base/plug styles I'm currently seeing coming outa Bali, and we don't do much SPS importing (actually 90% of the SPS is farmed that we've brought in in the last 2 years). Kalk claims to see TONS of Bali aquaculture every week, maybe he knows a few I don't :)

Gresham read the post before you comment. You are getting back to your bitchy self.

SciGuy are the bottle cap frags(I have never seen them in Vancouver before) the ones you were asking about?

Most of the Bali aquaculture isn't on the bottle caps, neasco. The most coveted ones, are the ones on the cement and pebble bases. Just follow the links, you'll see them. Must be pretty dark under that rock, huh? Ever actually take your eyes of the keyboard long enough to see the banners adds on the forum sites you post? BALI AQUACULTURE
