This rock is out side in the dirt lot behind the loading dock.
Its been there for seveal weeks ....the pile slowly growing smaller each week.
Your right , this rock should be called "Lot Rock"
Some wholesalers keep this rock in the lot.
Some actualy bring it back to life by showering it with love in trickle vats.
Turning it from a bright white to a eathen brown color.
Then the sell it online as Live rock that my customers want me to price match .......
Do you have an interest in this Boat rock , Dizzy?
You can actually drive right up to the boxes in the parking lot unguarded most nights at this certain freight company.
Or you can order the rock from several LAX wholesalers at other locations in LA ....if you dont like the fact that this certain pile at EAF is now mor eaptly termed "lot rock."

Kalk,

I don't know if you are talking about my rock or not, I am not located on Bellanca. I do bring in a sea container of rock about every 2-3 months. It is sold and invoiced as "dry rock" and we never call it live rock, it is however the same rock origionally as what we sell as live rock. The difference between our "dry rock" and "live rock" is that the dry rock comes in via a sea freight container and the live rock comes on the plane. The other big difference is that the dry rock costs .85 per lb. rather than the 1.75 to 2.50 that I charge for live rock. We sell a lot of this boat rock and I really do not see the problem with it as we never ever pass it off as live rock. I have seen it offered for sale on the internet as live rock. I questioned the guys selling it and their reply was that they considered it "live" as they put it in system tanks with other live rock and rejuvinated it. We all know how well that works (wink wink).

I just verified what rock you are talking about on Bellanca, it is not boat rock. Boat rock does not come in on air freight pallets. That rock was airfreighted in on Air New Zealand during the days between Christmas and New years under a special contract due to low international freight demand during that time. Actually the last two pallets from that contract just arrived this week and were added to the pile. It may be old rock but it is not boat rock.

I've seen and bought Dave's dry rock, EXCELLENT rock IMO. For people that want zero pests and don't mind no calcarious algae for a spell, the stuff is par none. Never questioned if it was live or not myself, heck, it's so dry it sizzles when water touches it :P

Thanks for posting Dave.......No your Sun rock is not in question.
There is a market for base reef rock and it serves the hobbyists well.
What's amiss is that lately some suppliers are not making the distinction between "Reef Rock "and "Live Rock".
You and some other sellers have been up front with the difference.
But lately many are not seperating the two products.
Confusing to the public is , live rock brought in by over night, air fresh from the Pacific, only to then be left to die for days or week on a pallet before being sent out.
With such a wide range of end products,
like fresh "live rock".
three day old live rock "CPR live rock"
seven day old live rock "DAA Live Rock"
Boat rock thats sold as "Live Rock"
Boat rock thats sold as "boat rock" " sun dried rock"
Boat rock thats weeks old setting in the box "Lot Rock"
Boat rock thats been setting in a wet vat for weeks. " Terri shivo Rock"

You ever try Laci Peterson rock? It's pretty nasty stuff. I actually need to call Dave today. His dry rock interests me as I need a bunch of it for a large saltwater pond we are installing for a customer.

BTW Jeff, if you will actually be working for a change on Saturday, I may stop by as I will be in your neighborhood down there in Mayretta.

And we must never forget that new Aruba rock that Big Bob @ DR is pimpin' these days, too bad he can never seem to find any to collect though. Natalee Holloway rock is really nice stuff, just hard to find.
