So either these pms were made to scare me, you do not have access to the secret "watch list", or the last I dare not say becasue I do not like to make accusations.

Just don't behave badly. If someone goes after you, don't respond in kind. Each of us is responsible for what we post, and the excuse that 'he did it first' is not acceptable.
If someone called you dumb, respond in a respectful manner, and let a mod or admin know you feel abused. No biggy - people will see that you handled yourself well. If you stoop to the level of the person calling you dumb, you are are then at that level.

There is no secret watch list. Different admis and mods have different opinions. Keep your own nose clean and you have nothing to worry about. The appropriate defense from a hostile member is not to respond in kind, but to let a mod or admin know your feel you are being attacked.

In other words, you are responsible for your own posts regardless of what others write. You getting 'attacked' does not excuse your 'attacking' back. Defend yourself, but do not stoop to the lower levels of those you feel are 'attacking' you.

Unless you are telling me that if I was to call someone a pile of dogpoo after that person called me and my family everything in the book first, that we both are responsible 50/50????????????

Thanks STR, I think the reason to report it is that it supports mods in their decisions to discipline, remove posts or take other actions. if you respond in kind, you run the risk of being seen in the same light as the instigator.-Jim

As I said before, each party is responsible for what they choose to post. If you keep your on nose clean, the other party looks worse. If you choose to 'stoop' the waters get muddy and it becomes harder to take administrative action.

Almost. You are 100 percent responsible for what you choose to post regardless of what others choose to post. If you choose to lower yourself, that is the the level you are on. The other person is 100 percent responsible for what they choose to post. If you and your family get insulted, and you handle yourself with dignity, it is much easier for admins and mods to side with you. If you choose to sling mud as well, you are in the same boat as the person who slug mud at you.

I am not necessarily familiar with the posts you are talking about, but if you respond in kind, you are equally abusive.

Exactly. 'Disciplining' multiple parties is much harder that dealing with one bad apple.

Well guess what, if you really cared you would have done a search for the word dumb and you would have found a locked thread authored by fragmaster 14 threads down and you could then familiarize yourself with the post. And then you would have also seen that

It would be much better if you told me you thought I was talking down to you instead of going on the attack. I cannot alter my behavior or reassure you unless I know there is an issue. I have not disparaged you, yet you are choosing to disparage me. I question the reasoning behind disparaging admins or mods, but I am letting it slide right now in an attempt to get us all going the same direction - much the same way that we did with FragMaster. You are both on the edge of being banned for your current and previous behavior, and there is much ongoing discussion about that.

I never said it made you responsible for the problem, I said that you are 100 percent responsible for what you choose to post, regardless of what others post. If you choose to post something problematic, you are 100 percent responsible for it regardless of what others post. I was speaking in general terms, not in regards to a specific instance.

Again, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt incase there was another thread you were talking about. If you have a thread that you would like looked at in the future, please link it to avoid confusion.

However, my point that you quoted above wasn't that you did respond in kind, rather, it was to make clear that bad behavior is not justified by others previous bad behavior.


If you post abusively, you are responsible for that post even if it is responding to another abusive post. A poor analogy - if someone burns my house down, that does not justify my burning their house down.

Please remember I am not writing to you now as another poster - I am a site admin. If you do not like the way the way RDO is moderated/administered, it may not be the right home for you on the net. I hope that is not the case.

I've fallen for the "post back" mentality many times, it's hard not to some times, but, when I do so, I know I'm walking a thin line. Several mods have had to tell me to quit, and I always respect their opinion and take on the matter. IMO this thread is nearing it's end, this going back and forth with the mods truly serves no purpose any longer.

Not that anyone should necessarily enjoy being called dumb, or idiot, but I hardly think it warrants retaliation or seeking apologies IMO. Just rise above it. Don't respond in kind or you will be held responsible for your choice of wording in responding.

You don't seem to understand that I have been your 'friend' in this instance. Others have said we should just deactivate your account, while I have been advocating giving you more chances. You continued unfriendly posting style has now changed my opinion.
