I feel I should speak up here because I'm the person who locked those threads.
First, I should say that when i started modding this forum I was requested by community members to lock threads with a quick explanation, rather than delete anything. I certainly try to wait until a thread has become a dogpile, turned nasty or gone completely off topic before I consider locking it. Sometimes I will suggest that people wishing to further discuss some aspect of the thread start again as in the "mortality" thread. Sometimes i really feel that the subject has been fully explored with many sides and opinions being posted and all that's left is people either rehashing already stated points or slinging mud, which is rarely productive. I try to give everyone their say and I am always hesitant to lock threads even if I personally don't see the value in them. However, the tone that a thread takes is very important in my decision making. As long as threads are just people disagreeing respectfully with each other, I'm not going to lock it. Deliberately inflammatory posts, however, are not conducive to rational discussion. I will continue to take this tack and hopefully we can all behave like adults and have productive conversation, discussion and debate.
That being said, I am watching certain posters and I hope they take this explanation to heart so that nothing as severe as banning need occur.
It's your community folks, you get to decide how we communicate as a group but I will step in when I see it's called for.
Thx-Jim
