Peter,

Although my user name here is still mark@mac, I am no longer associated with MAC.
In fact, to answer Gregors question from some time ago, of "why did MAC fire you Mark?", I will answer that: I received one poor performance review out of 3, (the poor review came from one of the new MAMTI directors, while the other 2 good reviews came from veteran staff)

Well, 2 outt 3 ain't bad...

Funny I received 2 promotions in 2005, one in January, and one in August after working in the Phillipines for 5 months; only to be canned 5 months later after MAMTI took over..... hhhhmmmmm......

Thanks for the offer Peter, but we all know the availability of netting is not, or at least should not be a problem. Right?

Regards,

Mark

Mark,
A poor review from a MAMTI director?
Thats OK... being reviewed by inferiors is common in self perpetuating bureacracies.
Those guys could never do what they expect of others in the field.
They have ruined a wonderful opportunity to easily generate fountains of good news and deeds and done a terrible diservice to the cause of conservation.

Thanks Steve,

That does make me feel a bit better.

By the way, Tuusing from Batasan says Hi to you. Says he really enjoyed working with you and you "catch fish good for a white guy".

Yo Mark,
What was you supposed to be doing that your supervisor said you weren't doing so well?

Mark thank you for taking the time reply.

Is it possible for the Philippine youth to organize a Union or Association of Fishers to negotiate a fair price for the fish they sell to the local buyers.
Put more money into the hands of net fishers and that will be the incentive to get off cyanide.

More money must be put in the hands of net fishers. Industry with the high margins they demand can either absorb this increase or pass it on to the hobbyist.

Wayne, have you ever tried to 'pass on an increase to a hobbyist?'

It won't happen.

Peace,

Chip

Mark,
I worked w/ him 23 years ago.
Great guy.
Imagine if we were allowed to train and keep the ball rolling since then.
Everyone would have been...should have been net catching since the mid 80's.
The divers are the easiest to train...the foreigners, the hardest.

Tuusing is a great guy, Batasan was one of the villages I visited with Ferdie a few years ago. Unfortunately, I was only in the water for a couple hours in Batasan before we had to hop over to the next village.

Mark, Obaining netting is not a problem if you know where to buy it. I suggest you contact Steve Robinson if you do not know whom to contact to purchase either hand netting or barrier netting.

I would like to know more about your program, before I make any recommendations to Ferdinand.

ONE of the reasons why it didn't happened was because S. Robinson's lack of tact and manners. The individual has been the same since day one and most of the people can not stand him. He is a good trainer, but when working with other people you need more than "expertise", you need modesty and tact. Today there good trainers in the Philippines that can do the job.

Okay Jamie...we get the point...you don't like Steve's handling of people. There's no reason to bring it up in every thread he posts in. Steve has continued to behave himself in this forum, and we need you to do the same.

Let's continue to keep it civil around here, folks.

Peace,

Chip

Chip,

I got it. Best thing to do is to stop blaming others when one is responsible, in part, for what happened and happens.

Ya know... - The only time I don't know what your opinion is on things is when you pour the eloquence on ultra-thick and make it hard to wade through to get your real gist.

Thats alright though, at least for the most part, no one has too many questions where you stand, eh? ;)
