Im not sure if this is the right place to post this but when the water warms up a little I plan on gong to the keys and do some collecting. I was wondering if you guys would be able to point me towards some good spots to go to. I also have a boat but would prefer not to tow it all the way down there. Id rather just snorkel from the beach or whatever. Also if you guys could let me know what is ok to take. Ive tried looking this up but it is vary vague. Also some good techniques for collecting would be great too. Links would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

I think you need to look a little harder at the fwc site as it is pretty clear depending on what you want to collect.

Bag Limit: Aggregate bag limit of 20 species (in any combination), of the species included in the Marine Life rule as listed below. Of those 20 species, no more than 5 may be angelfish, and no more than 6 may be colonies of octocorals (each colony or part thereof is included in the aggregate bag limit). The bag limit for plants listed in this rule is 1 gallon.

Seems like 20 is the limit for hermits/anemonies/everything except plants, which is 1 gallon.

Try contacting them directly ;) They're very helpfull people.

Maybe Peter Rubec can chime in here:)

You not going to find any thing nice on the shorelines, you'll need a boat to hit some of the near shore reefs. FOLLOW THE RULES. Don't go over your limit or collect things your no suppose to.

That limit is for the entire state. It was instituted because of overharvesting.

They caught some guys last month down from NC. They threw them in jail and took there vehicle. I think it is a felony.

They must have been real asses to the law enforcement to actually get arrested and their stuff confiscated.

Yep,

That guy in the thread was last week. There was another group that they caught a couple months ago. They were down on Big Pine, I think.

You sure don't have to be an ass for them to take everything. Unless you think taking illegal corals is being an ass. Because they take it serious.
