Colin,

I only criticize where I find the "certification body" doesn't comply with it's own standards.... As a MAC certified retailer, I worked very hard to comply with the standards to become certified. In my mind, that means everyone else who is "certified" should be held to the same standards; right?

I agree that this thread has gotten "off topic" and I contributed by answering some questions posted here.

I sincerely appreciate your candid reports; especially the last one! You're not the first one to note some of these ironic anomolies and experiences within the industry and foriegn cultures.

At last year's MACNA, Gayatri, (with my strong urging she present) presented on some of these issues you speak of. I think hobbyists and retailers alike need to be informed more of the"realities" of MO collection and the lives of the collectors especially!

We can't positively affect change in ocean conservation without first affecting positive change in the lives of the poor people collecting the MO's in the first place......

Thank you for your detailed report in the new thread.

Peace,

Mark

Mark,
As you said before....MAC management in Indonesia is light years apart from MAC management in the Philippines.
Colin is quite lucky that he is working w/ Gayatri and not the ones you had to in the Philippines.
As a controlled experiment in what is possible under better quality leadership....I'm intrigued by Colins experience.

Gayatri should become the new director of MAC!

Steve
