In turn, I will contact CITES and see what steps if any they have taken on the Bangaii cardinals.

Did you just say that? It was announced publicly last year. No need to ask, just GOOGLE  There must be a half dozen threads I was involved in re: CITES denial of the B. cardinal.

Your on top of it. What it is I don't know

Joe, don't feed the troll ;)

Thank you for the current information on the B. cardinal. I have got to say that I am impressed with your knowledge of the B. cardinal situation and the fact that you frequent a marine aqua-culture web site. Do you buy anything from them?

In light of the grave concerns about B. cardinal, do you still buy wild species?

I would also like you to answer the 'cost questions' I posed.

Thank you

Wayne Ryan

I'm FAR, I repeat, FAR more connected to aquaculture then I am with wild collections  Although I did just see 80+ legal clarions sitting in a nice row of acrylic tanks. What a site :D

Never bought a single wild B, cardinal myself. And you?

Wayne,

Besides the fact that there may not be enough captive raised Maculousus Angels to meet demand (you would have to ask the the breeder why he does not produce more if that is the case - it is afterall his money on the line)....

Some hobbyists may want a 4 - 12 inch adult instead of a 1-2 inch juvenile. If you have ever tried to grow out a Pomacanthus in a captive environment you will understand why raising to adult is not economically feasible. This is the same reason we continue to take advantage of the oceans free breeding and growing out facilities of food fish and continue to harvest them despite the fact there are many aquacultured alternatives for similar table fare. I would argue the commercial overharvest situation is in much more dire straits than the wild population of Moon Angels. If your goal is to preserve ocean fauna then every second you spend discussing the Maculousus angel instead of more time sensative species situations is a net negative to that goal.
