  1. gorgonians to avoid? pacific gorgonians?

GARF has a bunch of stuff on maintaining gorgonains here: http://www.garf.org/TREVORHOME.html I have had success with the purple whip with tan polyps and an orange with red polyps (though the polyps turned orange). I posted about the red polyps turning orange but got no responses - I'm still...
  2. Seahorses

As someone with 2 reef and 2 seahorse tanks I can say that the horses are just not that much harder, except that you need to feed 2X /day. I wouldn't try wild caught, which can be much harder to feed. Aptasia is a big problem in the tanks. We keep H kuda, H reidi, and H erectus
  3. Calcium Additive

Combining a 2 part with Tropic Marin Biocalcium seems to work for us.
  4. please help confused about refugium mud

I use Kent Marine. They'll all work.
  5. cleaner shrimp question

Ours hid the first week and then came out. Two seem less shy than one alone. Now, they fear nothing. The kids love to put their hands in and get them "checked for parasites". They tend to hide again for a couple of days after they molt (which happens about once a month in our tank, depends...
  6. Nano selection question.

There's a 12 gallon jbj nano with built in lights and 3 stage filtration commonly available online and in stores for $100. Marineland makes a 12 gallon eclipse available for $89, made of plastic I believe. I have no personal experience with either. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ...
  7. Star fish question

It may be a micro star, a full grown adult is about 3/4 inch across.
  8. ocellaris and spotted jawfish; unrequited love

The clown left the anemone and our 5 year old is sitting in front of the tank trying to get her back in by saying "warmer, warmer" when she gets closer and "colder" when she gets further away. I'll let you know if the method works.
  9. ocellaris and spotted jawfish; unrequited love

 Well, despite a glass top, the blue spotted jawfish comitted suicide 2 days ago. He jumped out of the hole next to the overflow. Sure enough now that her anemone substitute is gone this morning the female clownfish is right in the middle of the rose BTA.
  10. Mini Breeding System?

Together makes it easier to care for - greater volume makes keeping water parameters stable easier. I've heard Banggai's can be bred in a 10 gallon, if it's part of a big system, but need 30 gallons if in their own tank. Also one big system costs less (one big protein skimmer costs less than...
  11. Blue Spot Jawfish Disease

"He's been in my freezer for 18 months now." ?? Do you mean that literally (and if so, may I broach the delicate question of why...) or is that slang for something like a Q tank?
  12. Looking for reviews on the CPR Aquafuge line.....

5 bioballs next to the output will do it too.
  13. every fish i get seems to die from ich within a week

Adding a UV sterilizer before you put the fish back in the tank will help reduce the number of cysts floating around and a cleaner shrimp wouldn't be a bad idea either.
  14. New fish time. Looking for recommendations.

I know it "hides" but you can't beat a blue spotted jawfish for color or personality. His head is always sticking out and looking around. It's a great fish. I've also heard great things about cardinalfish. I'm about to add Baggai's to our tank, but for bright fish that don't hide I'd look at...
  15. Tunze stream for a 46 gallon?

Call Preuss Animal House http://www.preusspets.com in Haslett Michigan and talk to Rick Preuss or Steve Oberg. They sell a ton of Tunze and I'll bet Rick can and will beat any price. They don't usually sell mail order, but on Tunze I'm guessing they will, especially if you tell them David sent...
