  1. Tank leaning forward. Prediction?

Thanks for all your feedback and warnings. I'm scared. It's a 60 gallon. I just fixed the overflow noise. Many of the notches were clogged with hair algae (another story) and when I cleaned up around them, there was adequate water in the overflow again. The swelling and general tilt are...
  2. Tank leaning forward. Prediction?

For days now my overflow has been making noise. It's too empty, yet the glass supports are underwater in front. The cabinet was severely flooded last summer and the wood (pressed board) has swollen outward. Will the leaning just keep getting worse? I have an idea about how to raise and...
  3. can you angle a sea swirl down?

Can you attach a short piece of hose on the tip? If so, you could cut the hose at a diagonal, or use an elbow. Cindy
  4. Help! Caulerpa brown this a.m., now CLOUDY!

I have a huge mass of feathery caulerpa in my tank for the seahorses. Yesterday it looked fine, but this morning most of the leaves look brown, now (4 hours later) the water is cloudy. What is the matter? Should I evacuate the fish, yank the caulerpa, or stop worrying? Thanks, Cindy
  5. Test Kits - What brand is good????

Now that you mention it, the Salifert pH test is not very sensitive. Who makes a good pH test kit?
  6. Test Kits - What brand is good????

I use the Salifert Test Kits, due to many NG recommendations. I'm real happy with them.
  7. Frogspawn & Brain. How close?

My jawfish has inched the open brain over so that it is only about 2 inches away from the frogspawn (when it is not extended?. Is there any danger from stinging or other competitve strategies of either of these corals?
  8. Rinsing new sand?

I've got a bag of CaribSea oolite sand. The instructions say to rinse the sand until cloudiness disappears. I tried using a strainer, but most of the sand fell through it. Any other ideas about what to use? Also, should I be rinsing it in DI, SW, or tap water? Thanks for your help ... Cindy
  9. Best clown for hammer?

My 60 gallon has no fish yet. The hammer coral is huge and looks like it would be a suitable home for a clown or clown pair. Which species would take to the hammer and not be too aggressive when I add other fish ... like a yellow-headed jawfish.
  10. I WILL buils a functional overflow by this weekend!

When I had my sump built (acrylic) I ordered three dividers so that I could position them to accommodate skimmer and reduce bubbles. Actually, I never installed them. I had extra pieces of LR and that was enough to eliminate bubbling. There's no RIGHT position for the dividers. You need to...
  11. Orange corraline algae

Could it be a sponge? (Please no flames, I'm a beginner) Some of them are flat and brilliant orange. Jeff's says that they aren't easy to keep, they die back if there are fluculations in tank parameters.
  12. Calcium - from 310 to 400 in one day!

I've been struggling to bring the calcium level up in my 60 gallons ever since set-up in April. Water changes, kalk drip, more kalk drip. Nothing would raise ppm above 310. Yesterday afternoon I put in the B-Ionic two part liquids. I re-tested calcium just now and FINALLY got 400ppm!!! Wow...
  13. MAUI

If you're staying in Kihei or Wailea you'll be close to the most spectacular snorkling in Hawaii. I've snorkled at Ulua beach. It is my favorite early morning spot, otherwise it's too crowded. Also I've kayaked and snorkled off of the Makena Landing and in the 5 Graves area. Lots of sea...
  14. Calcium/Alkalinity stuck !

I powered up my tank in April. I haven't been able to get my calcium level above 325ppm, even though I'm dripping about 2 gallons @ 2t./gallon Kalkwasser per day. All other parameters are good and stable. My lfs says I shouldn't worry if the corals and coralline are looking good. They are...
  15. New Euro-Reef owner

Neal - If I measure up 9 1/2 inches from the very bottom of the CS6-1 EuroReef, I am at a point below the grey plastic screw top ... maybe an inch or so below it. That's where my water level is. Take the foam sleeve off and you'll see that there are two extension tubes with O-rings. Position...
