  1. Heaters

Maybe I missed the post that simply spells it out. Assumptions: You need a minimum of a 400 watts to heat the tank. Scenarios: You have one 400 watt heater that gets stuck on and kills the tank because when you get home from work you see that the temp is now 132F. If you have two 200 watt...
  2. UNCURED ROCK SAFE ANIMALS

When I got my LR from TBS they included the entire "The Package" in the same shipment. The inverts went through the cycle and most made it through. I lost 1 out of 2 (1/2) starfish (both needed to recycle most appendages though), 2/6 turbos, and 1/2 cucumbers. Both of my Peppermint shrimp made...
  3. Help with disater revocery after ice storm

You could have run a power inverter in your car with a long extension cord to run heaters and PHs. Just a thought C
  4. Reliable float switch?

For my top-off system, I used a couple of float switches from mcmaster.com running to a relay (to keep the high voltage away from the water). I used 2 float switches just for redundency. I found that the switches fit and operate perfectly inside of 35mm film canisters. What I did was cut a hole...
  5. Rearranging Rockwork?

Ernie, A this point things are going too well to make any major changes. Besides, with a small tank 3-5 extra inches of sand would take quite of bit of realestate away from the occupants. C
  6. Rearranging Rockwork?

My nano has been up and running for about 3 months now and I've decided I can create a more pleasing rockscape than what I've first setup. Are there any problems that I should know about before I try this? Short of crushing one of the occupants as one of the potential problems, will I get a...
  7. update on male bashing clown

I was observing a a percula in the tank at the LFS that did this. It was in a tank with no other clowns though. I didn't buy her because I thought there was something wrong. But I'm new at this and if something doesn't act as I expect it to, then I move on. I'd also be interested to find out if...
  8. whats a good heater to buy?

I used a 50W Ebo-Jager for a short while for my nano, but I pulled it out and replaced it with a smaller 50W Visi-therm. The reason is I wanter a smaller heater was so it would fit in the filter box. The Ebo Jager is a great heater, but I'm finding that the Visi-therm holds temp within 1 degree...
  9. Acclimation problem

I just read another post about cuccumbers releasing toxins when attacted. I forgot to add my tiger tail cuccumber to the list of inhabitants. When I got him I thought was going to be sifting the sand, but as it turns out he's a filter feeder. The reason I yanked the hairy crab out of the tank...
  10. Acclimation problem

I introduced a Ocellaris Clownfish to my tank last night and he is exhibiting some unusual behavior. I spent about an hour acclimating him before I set him free. He stayed at the front top corner of the tank and gave us his best Stevie Wonder impersonation. The last fish I added went into hiding...
  11. heater

I recently raised mine from 78-79 to 81-82 and at the same time, I'm slowly increasing SG from 1023 to 1025 (currently 10245). At this point, everybody seems happier.
  12. Who to blame?

Ok, got him. I placed some silversides in a net and he walked right into the net. That was simple. Right in front of us, he grabed the cucumber with one claw and was taking it to his labyrinth. I hope this ends the tirade of death in my tank. His residence is a goldfishbowl for the time being...
  13. Who to blame?

It's the hairy crab! Just caught him trying to get a cucumber. Now to get him out. . .
  14. Who to blame?

The hairy crab: suspect in question. Body size not including legs is about the size of a quarter.
  15. Who to blame?

jdeets, the anemone is a Florida Gulf pink tip and pretty small. When it's fully extended, it can stretch to about 3-4 inches wide and 4 inches tall from bottom of foot to tip of tentacles. Typically, when the lights go out the anemone retracts.
