  1. Calcium reactor question

I had the same problem as you, I modified the system and added a needle valve at the end of the line. Since the mod, my drip rate is constant. I use a MJ1200 as a feed pump and it seems to work fine.
  2. question on garlic

I use Kyolic from GNC and I've had very good luck with it.... Do a search on this board a previous pose by (I believe) Tom O'Toole explained that garlic 'masks' fish from the ich parasite.....and this is, in my mind, the only plausible explanation for why garlic works.
  3. Little extra heat!!!

I agree that 77-79F is too cool for a reef tank. ....and 83-84 degrees should allow the corals flourish given good feeding conditions....I keep my tank in this range with no ill effects...in fact everything seems to be growing well and expanding well at this temperature. I believe Eric...
  4. Strontium & Molybdium

    Thanks Randy!
  5. How many ball valves and unions required?

You should be able to purchase ball valves and unions separately at your local Home Depot...you should find them more economical there as well....good luck...
  6. Ca rxr efficiency modification

Thanks, Minh....I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to screw up any of the chemistry.
  7. Ca rxr efficiency modification

....I'm kinda new to the Ca Rxr realm, and have a My Reef single chamber. I have another chamber that was a denitrator that i purchased quite awhile ago...I was thinking about adding this as a second chamber which would be straight flow-through with no additional pumps or CO2 input...it would...
  8. Strontium & Molybdium

....thanks guys for the discussion...this is good info IMO and I hope others will pay notice to this thread.... ....so, after listening to Dr. Ron, and reading what Mr. Holmes-Farley has to say here (which reinforces the thought), I'm not going to bother worrying about strontium and molybdenum...
  9. Strontium & Molybdium

geez....Jim, I just noticed as I tested the link to that article that you submitted a water sample to Dr. Ron for use in that article....hmmmm.....so you should be aware of the article already....and I have to say 'thanks' for taking part in research that I believe is important to the hobby...
  10. Strontium & Molybdium

alright.... ...a couple things here.... ...first of all, it is my understanding that strontium has no real benefit to our aquaria...strontium is used during calcification, but it is actually a "poison" of sorts by slowing down the calcifications process. Strontium has the same properties...
  11. Help: Pyrgiscus snail infestation on clams

...Please review this thread... http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57486 Dr. Ron Shimek is compiling data on parasitical snails...and I'm sure he would appreciate any input and samples you could add to his research. Attached is the body of the thread: *snip* I...
  12. Need help with Scroll Coral

I would use super glue gel to glue the broken edges to a piece of base rock. "scroll coral" is typically turbinaria reniformis...and care recommendations vary. I have mine in med-high light and medium flow. Keep the area around the coral free of detritus since the scrolling, vertical growth...
  13. Is this Aiptasia??

...it looks like it may be a couple aiptasia near the left side of the photo near the top of the rock, I count two, and there may be a third, but it's hard to tell for sure.... ....glass rose anemone is another name for them -- if they look sorta clear, but with a rose color tint, they are...
  14. Metal Halide shorting question?

That same thing happened to me when a bulb went bad....I replaced the bulb and it works great. You might want to try a cheap bulb from the local Home Depot to verify this is truly the problem before you go spending a bunch for a 6500 or 10000K.
  15. SD Question

Hurrifan... ...just give the Southdown time to settle out. The cloudiness is due to some extremely fine particles -- almost clay-size...they will stay suspended for quite some time...maybe even a week or more, but they are very desirable to have in your tank according to Dr. Ron Shimek...
