  1. OK am I missing something new about copepods?

Copepods are obviously a very important part of the reef ecosystem. I have found that if you make sure you take care of the tiniest of creatures, the rest of the animals will do very well. In reality, copepods are no more likely to carry a parasite than the coral, fish, or live rock the...
  2. Bring in the clowns.

If your current percula clownfish has been living without any other clownfish for 3.5 years, it is most likely a female. Try to find another percula clownfish that is smaller than your current clown. Two large female clowns close to the same size will often fight to the death. After...
  3. Bleaching Rose Anemone - help!

Anemones have colored up very nicely for me under MH lighting, given a few months. Several years ago, the same wattage in flourescents gave very poor results for a bleached anemone.
  4. Bleaching Rose Anemone - help!

Changing to MH lighting will not kill your anemone. My BTA colored up nicely under MH lighting. When it was bleached, it did not like direct light from the MH, but now that it has regained its zooanthellae, it seems to prefer being somewhat close to MH light.
  5. Sad day: Hippo tang jumped.

My coral beauty that seemed very happy in my reef tank for 3 years went carpet surfing when I went on vacation. I almost cried when I found its dried up carcass with caved in eyes on the floor. Then I did something stupid and selfish to replace the dwarf angel. For my birthday, I went out and...
  6. Really exotic fish for 6-gallon nano reef?

a tank raised neon goby(Gobiosoma oceanops) OR a lemon goby(Gobiodon citrinus) They both usually stay under 1 inch in aquariums, but a 6 gallon tank might still be too small for any wild caught fish.
  7. You'll like this

A 12" eel in a 6 gallon tank? Would it be worse if he sold it to the sushi place?(just kidding) That's crazy!

  9. Pics of my new juvi. Harlequin Tusk

I have never seen a juvenile Harlequin tuskfish. The smallest ones I have seen are always quite huge(10-24 inches). Thank you for sharing the picture, and I hope it does well for you. They are a beautiful fish for a very large tank.
  10. refugium lighting Q's

The 10g refugium has 66 watts of flourescent lighting with a reverse lighting schedule.
  11. Center Brace on AGA 38 Gallon

My 55 gallon reef tank also has that opaque center brace. I just position the MH light slightly offcenter so the center brace does not get overheated. If the MH light is offcenter enough, there will be minimal shadow from the center brace. Just make sure the MH bulb itself is not blocked by...
  12. How rare is this BTA color?

I have a BTA with pink tentacle tips and a pinkish purple base. The lower portion of the tentacles are a greenish tan. I think they are fairly uncommon in LFS, but I am unsure of how common this color variation is in the wild. I know that it is an E. quadricolor, but sometimes it really...
  13. antique tank....

Your tank from 74 is older than I am! Nice website 914 . hehhehhehe [ March 13, 2002: Message edited by: Dragonlady ]</p>
  14. selecting an anemone for maroon clown

BTA is the only anemone that maroon clowns associate with in the wild. Also, BTA have lower lighting requirements than H. magnifica. You can often find E. quadricolor in the same color combinations as H. magnifica. BTA have a much better record for doing well for long periods in captivity than...
  15. Percula Clown disease

It might be Lymphocystis, which is a virus that causes warty lumps on a fish. Lymphocystis is rarely fatal, but it can be spread to other fish. The fish's immune system should be able to rid itself of the virus in a quarantine tank within a few months.
