  1. Quiet circulation pumps

An Eheim 1262 would be an appropriate return for the 120. Although not as durable IME, the Oceanrunner line from AquaMedic are also worthy of consideration. If you prefer more sump turnover look into Laguna Max Flo Pumps. They are low pressure pumps, but do well under 5ft of head in...
  2. bah...I'm going Euro-Reef

I would not pay nearly that much for a Sedra powered skimmer... ER & ASM are dated designs and overpriced for what is available today. If you are on a budget take a look at the Octopus Extreme 160 & the Bubble Magus 150 v2. -Better construction -Quieter Pumps -Lower Energy Consumption -High...
  3. Butterfly in my reef?

Never mind that some of them are beautiful ;)
  4. New Turf Results

Gresham, I was laughing at this thread, not at you and Chris. I apologize if it came across that way. The emoticons were in jest to underwrite the tone of this thread... nothing more. In the future, if you'd like to discuss something with me, lighten up ;) I understand your point re: closed...
  5. New Turf Results

Hi Coprolite & Gresham  While I agree with much of what has been said in this thread regarding Turf filters, their ineffectiveness, and the initial claims made... This has little contribution to the argument. You are comparing organic carbon being released directly next to the coral...
  6. A love of rare angels dream video

    8
  7. Finally got my baby dragon

Very nice Tim. Those Teeth.... 8O
  8. Bare Bottom

My favorite is BB with perfectly clean glass... looks like a mirror  A well performing skimmer is a must and no matter how much flow you have detritus will settle, either on the bottom or on the rocks. Frequent siphoning of small pockets is necessary.
  9. Typhoon protein skimmer

I beg to differ regarding the Aqua C's... very poor performers IME. The injector housings seem to be hand made and they vary greatly from each unit making some of them work okay, while others not at all. The electric consumption and mag pump monstrosity in the tank are also worth mentioning...
  10. Typhoon protein skimmer

A very poor design and very poor piece of equipment. For a $75g reef tank take a look at insump/external models such as DAS, Euro Reef, MSX/Octo. If you're limited to hang on tank skimmers I am afraid there is not much available to handle a tank that size. Currently the only HOB that can is the...
  11. Optimal Temperature

A recent study worth reading regarding temperature and thermal stress on Acroporas. Reference Middlebrook, R., Hoegh-Guldberg, O. and Leggat, W. 2008. The effect of thermal history on the susceptibility of reef-building corals to thermal stress. The Journal of Experimental Biology 211: 1050-1056.
  12. Reefkeeper Elite controller

Much larger than an iPod nano... I would say ~3.5in x 4in? Large enough to see everything well, small enough that it wont stick out like a sore thumb if visible.
  13. Reefkeeper Elite controller

Got to play with it at IMAC, nice little toy :)
  14. Any Vortech owners?

Like Len said EcoTech just came out with the MP20, but they also released the Gen2 at InterZoo on Friday. New magnet, no rust, etc... also has new controls. http://glassbox-design.com/2008/interzoo-2008-eco-tech
  15. LED lightings ?

It's become a reality sooner than I expected. Many new LED fixtures were and are being shown at InterZoo; most notably Sfiligoi. http://glassbox-design.com/2008/interzoo-2008-sfiligoi/
