  1. Mystery shrimp larvae -- long

I had about 4 of them actually make it past metamorphosis and settle. They were pretty cool looking. :D Then I had to leave town and they didn't make it while I was gone, despite having someone feeding them, etc. It was fun while it lasted though and very interesting. K
  2. Mystery shrimp larvae -- long

Thanks for all the info Brian! The larvae were in fact hermit crabs and they have grown to the megalops stage and then settled to the bottom. My amboinensis larvae also did well until I had to leave town for over a week. Oh well. Fortunately, my adult shrimp have eggs every 14 days or so...
  3. Pairing P. fridmani

Hi, Completely different question now: Andy, chime in if you can. :D I put just put a female P. fridmani into a 20 long tank that houses a male P. fridmani in the hopes that they will pair up. The male is longer, slenderer and has a pointed lower caudal fin. The female is shorter and...
  4. Mystery shrimp larvae -- long

LOL!! Too funny Andy! :D What would you recommend I change my name to? K P.S. Thanks again for all the help/advice.
  5. Mystery shrimp larvae -- long

A few of the larvae are starting to form pincer-like appendages that they keep pointed up along their heads (like if you put both your arms straight up toward the sky held close to your head). I'm thinking they're hermit crab larvae... Does anyone know when they settle -- when I should start...
  6. Mystery shrimp larvae -- long

Hi, I am currently culturing a batch of shrimp larvae that I thought were L. amboinensis because I collected the larvae from a tank that had 2 L. amboinensis adults. One had fertile eggs for ~ 2 wks. (and had hatched larvae in the past) and when I figured they would hatch, instead of larvae I...
  7. Breeding cleaner Shrimp

Hi, Don't know if your questions were ever addressed in the thread -- sorry, I skimmed a bit. But I am currently using a simple air pump and wooden airstone (for gentler, finer bubbles) in a 10 gallon glass tank wrapped with black sides. My larvae are now 15 days old and although I will not...
  8. Tank Bred True Percs.

I also had no problem introducing an anemone to my 3 year old (at the time) CB Clarkii (raised her myself). She went straight for it and has been lovin' it for 3 years now.

  10. San Diego County/North County lfs recommendations?

Hi, I've tried searching the archives and couldn't find any answers, so please excuse this post if it's been asked before... I recently moved to Oceanside from San Clemente and am wondering which lfs you guys would recommend. I've been to Tri-City in Vista (not impressed). There are a few in...
  11. What should I do??? Major problem with algae!!!

I have to agree that one surefire (albeit QUITE tedious)way to remove hair algae is to remove the rocks and scrub w/a clean toothbrush in a separate bucket of SW. I had to do this to my 50# of LR when I was 8 mos. pregnant. Don't think there's much worse than that! I know your tank's...
  12. Anemone Experts: Lights for BTA

Thanks for the great suggestions guys! Chucker- Can't afford MH or increase in power bill. Calif. power bills are still pretty outrageous. I heard PC's use less power than even NO's. True or false? Thanks again. I appreciate it.
  13. Anemone Experts: Lights for BTA

Hi! Please excuse the redundancy of this post for some, but did a search and didn't quite get the answers I was looking for... Anyway, would like to ask the anemone "experts" out there for advice. I have a 55gal. FOWLR, 6" DSB, 50# LR. Dimensions of tank are 48"x21"x12" and would like to get...
  14. Maroon clown kicking up DSB

Thanks for all the info. As I stated, I just moved the entire tank, so I had no choice in rearranging everything. I don't have any corals, just don't like looking at sediment build-up on the rock/plants, etc. Just wondering if anyone has a solution for clearing sediment off the rocks other...
  15. Maroon clown kicking up DSB

Hi all, I don't post here often, but I just finished hauling my 55g FOWLR/DSB due to a move. My maroon clown has been fanning the sand for the last year I've had the DSB. I was using a turkey baster to try to get most of the sediment off, but it's getting to be quite a hassle. I did a search...
