  1. Would it be safe?(drilling 29gal)

First off, is it glass or acrylic? I'll assume it is glass. What brand of tank is it? Most smaller tanks these days are tempered meaning that if you try and drill it, you'll end up with a bazillion pieces of shattered glass.
  2. Easier way to mix SW

I've never heard that one before!
  3. Remora or BakpakII ?

I've used a BakPak -- a 46g tank with any significant bioload will likely be too much for it, though it is a good skimmer for like a 20g or even a 29g. You'll be glad down the road if you go Remora Pro roue likely Haloway suggested.
  4. Not liking 10,000K MH bulbs

How is that possible? Midday sun is 3-5x more PAR than most 400w MH...no comparison!
  5. This board is sloooooooooowwwwwww! Why?

    Righty, you that Right...errr...left...err correct!
  6. This board is sloooooooooowwwwwww! Why?

Reefs.org is a top notch site. RC may be larger/busier, but absolutely SUCKS when it comes to know-it-all ppl with something out to prove/boastfulness/bashing, etc. It reminds me of being in high school. Here, it feels more like a well-conducted college class (with a few troublesome...
  7. Lionfish in the Atlantic Ocean

A good friend of mine was the first to actually document a lionfish off the coast of FL about 12 years ago... speargunned it (about 12" -- very fat and healthy) john
  8. Impulse Buy - Voice in my Head

I second JimM. Impulse buys are all around a bad idea (as you have already berated yourself about). Nothing happens quickly in a reef except bad things. Same with buying. hth, John
  9. fresh salt mix ca readings

Those are the lowest reading from oceanic that i've heard. usually in the 420-460 range, alk of 8 or so...are you sure your test kit is accurate? I've personally been using oceanic for about 3 months and never had a ca reading below 420!
  10. Was this bad??

If it was directed at me, then I am sorry you took it badly. I get tired of seeing so many people makeing impulse buys on things they know nothing about! You take a chance on a fish that MIGHT nip at corals, that WILL get too big for the average tank, WILL eat everything in sight, and is from...
  11. Algae Free Aquarium Cleaning Magnets, Possible Group Buy??

i'd go in for a group buy on a good algaefree...i've gotten to use both and the car analogy is dead on....
  12. Lighting for Gigas

most gigas come from seagrass/muddy areas with significantly less par reaching them than other giant clams...it should be ok -- 14-16 inches from the surface. Low/mod. flow. make sure it is stable in the tank as its thread is probably atrophied/absent by now as they don't really depend on it...
  13. FeedBack On Reeftopia.com?

Excellent IME as well. Excellent customer service, prices. Class A business hands down.
  14. Was this bad??

Did you do any research on it before you bought it or just admire it for 3 weeks at PetCo? I will not buy anything from a place that sells these cute little fish they have labeled as "aluminum fish" (aka lunare wrasse) with about 30 in a 30-40 long... RESEARCH
  15. Cycle the tank with what ?

the rock is plenty!!! or get some sand from another hobbyist. or even a pinch of food. just don't use fish, inverts, etc.
