  1. Hundreds of little starfish

I have hundreds of tiny little starfish in my tank and there are more every day. I'm not sure where they came from and they keep the glass clean, but I want to make sure they are not harmful. Two questions: 1) Will they harm my corals? 2) I have a Mandarin that is thriving--will they impact...
  2. Anyone had trouble with their Sea Swirl?

Stuck like it won't oscillate. It just aims one direction.
  3. Anyone had trouble with their Sea Swirl?

I've only had mine for about 6 months, and now it's not rotating. :x It's trying (I can hear the motor going), but it's stuck. Thoughts/suggestions?
  4. What's taking over my brain coral?

My open brain coral is slowly being taken over by something. It almost looks like corraline algae (purple), and it's slowly working its way around the edges of the coral. Any idea what it is or how to get rid of it? I did a search on this forum and couldn't find anything, and there's nothing...
  5. Can't catch "ich-y" fish!

Thanks for the tips. I'm already feeding garlic-soaked food, so hopefully that will help. I only have 5 fish total, but I'd hate for the rest of them to get it. I'll try your suggestions, too, for catching the sick one. Good to know the corals are safe. This is so frustrating--it's always...
  6. Can't catch "ich-y" fish!

I have a fish with ich. (He's acting normal, but he's got white spots, so I'm assuming that's what it is.) However, I can't seem to catch him to quarantine/treat him. :x Until I do catch him, is there something I should be doing to the tank to protect the other fish and the corals?
  7. OVerflow for my non-drilled tank?

Why is Lifereef so much better than CPR? What is the difference that prevents the "wet floor" syndrome?
  8. Does Marine Ich leave "scars"?

I have a fish that I put into the hospital tank a week ago to treat him for ich. Now the white spots are gone, but it left what look like scars in place of the white spots. It might be from him scratching on rock, but he looks like he needs to go on acne medication! Will those affected areas...
  9. Reef suggestions for 50gal bow tank. Coral, fish, etc thnx

You are right--bubble coral (physogyra) requires relatively low light. Bubble tip anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) requires significant lighting (as do all anemones, I believe).
  10. Reef suggestions for 50gal bow tank. Coral, fish, etc thnx

Casey-- You started out right by waiting before getting anything. I'm new at this myself and I'm definitely no expert, but there are two things I will comment on: 1) I believe Triggers will feed on invertebrates, and they are territorial (will sometimes feed on tankmates). Might not be the...
  11. What is this weird stuff on my rock?

Fantastic! I was hoping to add another "tank task" to my list. Jeez!
  12. What is this weird stuff on my rock?

It's green and shiny and bumpy. It almost looks like overlapping worms or bubbles. It's in two different places (that I can see, anyway), and it's spreading. Anyone know what it is and if it's good news or bad news?
  13. Why can't I keep Xenia?

I added a colony of Xenia about a month ago. It was doing okay, but not great. A couple of days ago I lowered my temp to about 77 (had been running79-81). Now the Xenia is looking good. I dose Iodine, too, so who knows WHAT makes them happy!?!
  14. New Website check it out

Nice reef! I admire your commitment--I hear nanos are much more difficult to keep. Cute cat, too!
