Hmm what about this: Rio 1700 LPH-2436? £30 Also will this be ok in a 36x15x12 - 30 gal fish only tank? I plan on upgrading the tank to a 36x15x18 very soon and using the old one as a sump so I can start building a reef :) I dont think I can get much bigger as its upstairs in my bed room...

The tank is 28.03 gallons, I change carbon ever 2 weeks, the protein skimmer is just a small reverse flow air driven type. I've had this tank with these 2 fish for 10 years now and never had this problem before.

Yes The ventilation is good, my window is open all the time. I never would have thought that smoking could cause this, but from now on I will not smoke in the same room to make sure.
