  1. Anyone know how to do this?

Just to keep this close to the top I will respond that I too am interested in this as my entire tank is devoid of hair algae except on one rock where it is growing between anthelia stalks and it is so frustrating trying to get it out knowing that it will return in 1 week.
  2. can maroon white stripe and yellow stripe keep together?

As long as they pair up which it sounds like yours are, they will be fine. I currently have a breeding pair that is that exact way--A large female white stripe and a small male gold stripe. It is hard to tell sometimes when the clowns are small if they are gold or white stripes as they all...
  3. Running Carbon

From what I have heard most reefers do not run carbon consantly, but only use it to polish their water occasionally or when there is a mass spawning, something dies, or something poisons the tank. In the 5 years that I have run a reef, i have never used carbon although there is an old container...
  4. Salinity Poll?

    1.026 @ 82 degrees.
  5. BAD! Neon Dottyback BAD!

I too once suffered through a mean SOB of a dottyback. I tried every trick I could think of to get that fish out, including size 22 fishing hooks (he would just come up from the bottom and nibble the food off), so I tried the following and it worked. I do not know how your live rock is...
  6. Smart Lamp's not enough?

Depending on the type of anemone that you want to keep, your lighting may be sufficient. If you are looking in to getting a bubble tip anemone, you have plenty of lighting. These BTAs seem to be among the hardiest anemone and are available captive raised--so if you are set on getting one, this...
  7. today's life lesson

Liu- If my remark hurt your feelings, i do apologize. If I misinterpreted your post, I also apologize. I suppose that everyone one would not have been up in arms if my post would have been worded to say...I am sorry to hear that two pair of clowns did not work out for you. I know from what I...
  8. today's life lesson

Why do you start your thread lol? I do not see anything funny about your thread. If you would have taken more than 2 seconds to read about marroons you would have known this would happen. Of course the male is going to go straight to the BTA he is probably stressed and scared to death. Don't...
  9. today's life lesson

I don't understand the relevance of number of posts. If Joyce Wilkerson posted 1 thread on this board I would find it 1,000 times more valuable than any one of your mighty 166.
  10. Bubble-tip multiple splitting

Anemone- I too have wondered about my BTAs when they split in rapid sucession, but they are all doing well now, so I don't know if you should be concerned. Watch the separation points and make sure they heal quickly. IMO if they appear healthy and continue eating you should not worry too much...
  11. today's life lesson

The name calling hurts! I am not saying that I have never made a mistake - I just don't find what was so humorous about the "life lesson". Reef literacy is a responsibility if one wants to keep these creatures. Or maybe we should all just encourage whatever bozo off the street to head over to...
  12. Hard to Keep License

I too feel that this thread is well intentioned, but where would this hobby be if nobody ever tried something new with a "difficult" animal? Huge advances are being made in keeping and breeding all sorts of marine fish and invertebrates and it is through research that we will be able to better...
