  1. hey any tips for what nano tank to get??????????????????????

What about a 28 gallon Nano-Cube HQI? Any feedback on these? Dr. Foster and Smith has a special, get the tank and receive the stand for free.
  2. Turbo Snail and mystery worm

Thanks Lawdawg, I came to the same conclusion about the pump, so its been back on...I think it was off for a day, max. I'll look for those covers at the LFS and rig up some filter material per your suggestion if I can't find anything else. The snail did not survive the trauma...after the last...
  3. Turbo Snail and mystery worm

My tank temp is 78-79 degrees. I change out two gallons every week; its a six gallon tank. I'm concerned now with the intake for my AquaClear...is there some sort of baffle or grate I can put over the intake to prevent another snail-sucking incident? Snail looked injured after I shut off the...
  4. Turbo Snail and mystery worm

Thanks David, I do have supplemental algae now for the snail, so it should be okay for food. However, this afternoon after work I found it attached to the intake for my AquaClear pump...I turned it off, the snail removed itself, but it doesn't seem to be doing well at all. I feel terrible...
  5. Turbo Snail and mystery worm

This post may just expose what a Noob I am to this hobby, but here is goes: Let my 6g tank cycle and "marinate" so to speak for a month and a half with LR before adding a cerith, turbo snail and a tiny blue-legged hermit. There was plenty of algae for the turbo to consume and consume it did...
  6. bizarre addition?

Thanks everyone, I'm definitely going to look into getting the powerheads; I'll look for some aquaclears. I saw the "I am an Oatmeal Savage" on a Scottish bumpersticker. I thought it was hilarious because I have Scottish roots and I love oatmeal :)
  7. powerhead suggestions?

Any brand suggestions for a powerhead for a six gallon tank?
  8. bizarre addition?

They make powerheads small enough for a six gallon tank? I figured most models would be too large.
  9. bizarre addition?

I'm still in the process of getting my water parameters adjusted after two weeks of cycling (ammonia to 0mg, nitrite is now down to .3mg) and I'm wondering if I need to be concerned with upping my aeration/water movement. I'm using an Eclipse 6 tank with the biowheel, but is that enough oxygen...
  10. creature explosion

Yes, they do move about. Cool, I'm assuming this is a good sign...
  11. creature explosion

Week three of new tank; I just have live rock/sand in the tank. I noticed today I have a large population of tiny white creatures that are clinging to the sides of the tank. I'd take a picture but they are so tiny I don't think I could pick them out without a lot of distortion. Are these copepods?
  12. Arrgh

I just did my Nitrite, Ammonia, pH, etc, and its not looking good. This is day two of tank with live rock and live sand (seven lbs of live rock, 6 gallon tank). My Nitrite is less than 0.3ppm; pH 7.9; Ammonia 5.0ppm (!!!) I knew values were supposed to be high, but is it supposed to be this...
  13. new nano

The "lights off" for a few days was something I read from an online journal; I'll certainly keep them off the whole time if that is a better idea. My LFS said two weeks was probably the length of time needed for a six gallon to cycle, but I would definitely have my water parameters be the real...
  14. new nano

Thanks for the advice! I got a Tetra test "laborett" water test set and Kent Marine Nano Reef Part A and B (just in case). I've just started the biowheel up and put in my live rock/live sand. From what I've read I should test ammonia, pH, etc everyday until the nitrite is down to zero; about...
  15. new nano

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this hobby and I'm trying to read up as much as I can on reefkeeping! For now, I have a six gallon tank (I also have a 55 gallon that I plan on using when I move in a few months) that I'd like to set up. Its one of the Eclipse Six models, which I'm sure is probably...
