  1. 250W MH over a 29? Good idea?

I had the same setup when I had a 29g. I would definitely lose the glass, go with eggcrate for a top. Then I suspended mine from the ceiling about 8" off the water, this gave me very little heat issues. You won't get perfect coverage as max. effective spread is 24" and your tank is 30". I used...
  2. Tank Crash Question - Rio Pump?

I don't think the tanks. Commodity Axis is stateside distributor, they are made in China. I have one of the pumps and it looks identical to the Rio. I also have one of the big ViaAqua tanks and to get info from their old site you had to download a Chinese character set. FWIW
  3. Any problem with IceCap 250w HQI ballast?

I've been running 2 for about 4 months no problems. These aren't like the old ones as far as tuning. They will fire any bulb made in their wattage.
  4. Live sand

Live Rock....Depends what you mean by cheap? Harbor Aquatics and Premium Aquatics are both quite reasonable. Silica.......Here it is usually appx. $4.99/50lbs. #90 grit which is good for DSB particle size.
  5. need opinion on tang

I agree completely on the Yelloweyed Kole. The pictures don't do it justice as they really have a subtle beauty. Also have a great personality, gets along with other fish, loves the algae we hate, and as stated above is not a big swimmer like the other tangs. IIRC maximum size reported in...
  6. need opinion on tang

Grows to 18" minimum tank size 135g. Agressive and major swimmer. So you got that tone right :D
  7. Help in choosing Tangs

dizzy, etal, You make an excellent point. I think it is probably time for some of us to become internal affairs officers for the Tang Police. To make it a habit to stop into Tang threads, and not confront or dispute, but to offer advice in a more friendly manner. I understand the passion that...
  8. Chelidonura nudibranch?

If RC gets back up I would suggest a forum search on that website first. HTH
  9. Help in choosing Tangs

Cool, Tang Police here too! But, all seriousness aside, my research on this topic brought me to Yellow-eyed Kole Tang. Smaller than most of the others, grazes incessantly all day. From what I read they are relatively hardy for a Tang...IF you get one that hasn't injured its mouth. I guess either...
  10. Looks like reef central is moving over here!

I don't think so. This message was something totally new. Database error. I did try the tech. staff mail link it provided, mail returned as server not found. I would say the site crashed. Let's hope archives were backed up! Although, as much as I like the place, from what I've seen I would bet...
  11. Banggai Cardinals=Predatory?

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll watch then and see what develops. It is a cool fish, would like to keep it if possible. Where do you get these ghost shrimp? Last night was the first time it took any Mysis, and it just took two then let the rest float past him. Thanks again.
  12. Banggai Cardinals=Predatory?

Thanks James. Bummer though.. Well, am upgrading to a larger tank at the end of the month, guess he won't be invited. Now I got a SLF to catch as well. Been a model citizen until this last molt. Now he wants the Perculas and the Peppermints. This was before I learned to RESEARCH first. Thanks again,
  13. Banggai Cardinals=Predatory?

Thanks you for your prompt reply. May I assume then that they will not bother the Peppermint & Cleaner shrimp or the dwarf zebra hermits? That is my biggest concern. Most of the texts I have read since aquiring it have stated they feed on zooplankton. From that I would think my other inhabitants...
  14. Banggai Cardinals=Predatory?

Sorry if this is a talked to death one, but I haven't turned anything up in my searches. I recently bought a Banggai Cardinal after reading it was a nocturnal Herbivore. Wish I could remember that source! After watching it I was sure it was hunting. Read more, Carnivore. My question, does this...
