Reefman, if you remember that one ,you must also know Tropical Fish Supermarket on Nostrand ave. You could catch your own fish.

Recentely there was a nice store in Williamsburg. The owner was a real good kid...........

I remember the one on 59th I think, did they have a big display tank in the window? and the store was kind of sparse looking. I saw them making a tank there once in the store.

I also liked the store that was on 3rd ave down in the 30's or 20's I forgot the cross street. the salt water was in the back.

The place on 59th and 2nd ave not only had a large tank in the window but a really tall tank in the back. They use to make large display tanks and do a lot of service. One of the owners told me he worked at the Toronto Aquarium but he was full of it as he didn't remember when someone put something in one of their tanks and caused a major wipe out.

Jon the place on 33rd and 3rd was called Fish Town USA. I think at one point it was owned by the same people as the one in Queens, though not the current owner. They also had a 220gal tank with a very large Red Tail Catfish in it.

I remember going to TFS on Nostrand, though they had more tropical fish then saltwater. They were very close to World Class Aquarium.

I also would go to Reed's & Tom's place on Nostrand, by the Belt in Sheephead Bay. I think it was called American International Aquariums. They sold dog and cat food upstairs, different shop, and the fish where down stairs. I still have a fish I bought from them.

Yeah...on 8th street, thought it was neat that they had tiny tanks with only
1 or two fish in each of them!
I used to stand outside the window and watch the reef tank all the time.
The one on 23rd st - New York Aquarium - that place was the bomb.
First it was on the south side of the street, then they moved to the north side (I think pearl paint took their space).
They had good peoples working there...anyone remember DEE?
I also met David Blain there. He's into snakes and bought his pinkies from them.

David the owner of New York Aquarium was really knowledgeable and he wouldn't just sell you anything. He use to get in some rare things, he's definitely missed.

Tropical Fish Supermarket was cool, I worked at First Class 92-94 and it wasn't two brothers just one. His brother would help out every now and again but it really declined after 93-94. In 93 he was in negotiations to buy the building on Ocean and U which is now a Rite Aid I think. It had been a post office and he was going to make a huge 2 story pet store. He ended up going a different route entirely with his business.

First Class was mostly salt and had several reefs setup in the back. They sold all kinds of hard to get items and, well you'd remember it if you were there. It wasn't as nice as the place on West 4th in the village but it did have alligators, 10 foot pythons in trees (inside the store) and many hard to get specimens.

I remember First Class

I also used to go to Tropical Fish Supermarkt and that place off Bedford near the belt parkway it was downstairs cool place

Does anyone remember Marks Aquarium

As a child in the 60's I used to go to the one on Chambers Street. It was a full block long with entrances on both sides. It was called "Aqua Stock."

It was between Chambers and Church a couple of blocks from the Trade Center.
It was "Aquarium Stock Company" I used to go there all the time, it was the largest aquarium store I have ever seen before or since. They always had a huge selection of wierd things, they even sold baby sea turtles. I loved the place and there was another large aquarium store a block away
