My favorite boating and SCUBA spots in the Sound
Execution lighthouse, commiossioned by George Washington.
Once while diving here for lobsters we climbed on the rocks to check out our catch and we notice the door was kicked in. It was boarded up for as long as I have been going there in the sixtees.
We went inside with our dive lights and the first floor was a kitchen because it used to be occupied many years ago. The place was full of World War Two radio and Radar equipment. Old vacuum tubes all over the place. We diden't want to swim any of this stuff back to the boat so we decided to go back a few days later and bring the Zodiac.
Of course the place had a new door and they added a barbed wire fence all aroung the island.
Wer diden't get anything except some rotten old machine gun ammunition
from diving there.
The second picture is Tiny Huckelberry Island off New Rochelle. Another great diving spot. At night you can catch 7" mantis shrimp there.
It used to be a big deal during the depression. The gambling tables are still there as is whats left of the caretaker's house and a few other small structures. It is now a bird sanctuary owned by the New York Athletic club and although you are not supposed to go there, it is a great place to explore and dive for lobsters.

So....I went in a little early this year so that I could bring the boat in for some warranty work before the real season starts in May for us and lo and behold some schmuck decides to go on to my boat and steal the display unit for my radar! Now, not only do I need to replace the unit for approx $600, but I need to invest in all sorts of security measures at my dock and on the boat because who knows what this sonofanitch will come back for next.

they stole my LCD tv, but apparentLy the it was one of the employees at the dealer's. so they returned it :sigh:

That means they borrowed it :)

BTW, it's very lonely out there...a 45 minute ride and not another boater in sight...also no buoys :irked: (that made the east-west Amityville Cut very interesting. I am very grateful for GPS right now)
