Here is an article from the times regarding the ice cap drilling. It is an older article but it talks about what they are doing and why. Almost no information on findings though: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9804EEDD163FF931A15754C0A9659C8B63

This article has more details: http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Study/Paleoclimatology_IceCores/

I'm just posting these out of pure interest in the projects themselves and not taking any sides on the issue being discussed in this thread. There also was a tv special on this as well (last year I think).

I was thinking about this last night and a few things came to mind.

1. Electricity is not addressable. Con Ed is not able to send electricity with a certain source to just your home and not your neighbors. To do so would require them to build another circuit from the source all the way to your home. I doubt Con Ed is running anther "Green" grid right along side the existing one for people who would like Green energy.

The rest of the things I thought of really don't matter compared to the first (above) issue. I'd love to see the fine print on the Green energy agreement. Obviously Co-Ed is not able to control the amount of "green" energy that supplies your home the way they claim.

I was thinking the same thing. How do they separate your green power from your neighbors? It all comes into the building through the same cable.
The best guess I can make is that they buy the amount of green power clients who sign for the service require and it gets put into the grid along with everything else.

yes you are correct. You may not be getting the "green" power to your house. You are paying for the energy you pull from the grid to be replenished w/ Green Energy.

I don't think your appliances will know the difference.

I assume they just do the same as in other states that they lump the energy together from different sources including like buying back from solar homes, wind energy sources... Users cannot tell what's green and what's not-they just go by the bills(number game) of how much comes from green sources and how much comes from standard sources.

I definitly agree with jhale here we spend alot of money to run our tanks. Im sure the reefing community is not helping "global warming", Or many other causes in this world. How many starving families can your $225 1/2 inch bazuka joe chalice help feed.
