I am really starting to not like this governor we have. Cutting education???? This guy is out of his mind. Taking away from our schools is taking away from our future. No sports, no music, no arts, NO TEACHERS???? Budget cuts across the board. What is this going to accomplish besides the negative adverse effects??? I understand that there is a severe budget crises, but doing this is being penny wise dollar foolish. Someone needs to put a stop to this madness.

With such a large deficit there has to be some cuts and unfortunately health care and education take up half the budget. Don't get me wrong its upsetting to see how much is going up but Paterson has a tuff job right now. This isn't directed towards skimacka but I'm looking forward to hearing other plans on how to close the deficit.

Kimoyo - Fewer politicians, beuracrats and govt. administrators would be a good start. I always get a kick out of people making $300,000 telling someone who makes $50,000 that they need to make sacrifices.

On a more practical POV I know that a lot of these cuts are now necessary. I just find it galling that the people who made these cuts necessary are still rich and not affected in the least.

How many people here know that spending actually went up 1.3 percent in this budget?

Cut spending instead of taxing the sh*t out of me.:irked: What does he think that by cutting money to schools; the schools are just going to reduce their budget in turn. I don't think so. So say hello to higher school and property taxes.

The best one I heard this week: NYC Council will send out $400 rebate but raise property taxes 7 percent.

No wonder New York State is #1 in population decline.

I think school budget should be cut, but the big question is - depending on where.
For example, teacher salaries - no, the budget shouldn't be cut there.

I don't work at a school, but I've definitely volunteered in one.

There is such a waste of resource (books, supplies, etc.) - that it's unbelieveable. It's pretty sickening actually. Every year, this stuff is not used, and gets thrown away. But schools purposely purchase it and wastes tax payer's money (us) because they don't want to lose the budget for the following year. That is sad.

The governor is not going to please everyone, but he has to make tough callls. None of them are easy.

PS. I don't get the 400 rebate, but tax property is up 7% policy.

I don't know why I know that too. HAHAHA

One other common way not to loose the budget of next year is to buy things that are not supposed to be paid for by that portion of the funds with companies who only list model/code numbers instead of exact item in common name-I seen way too many of these invoices.

Well, like what I always stress: Accountability and Responsibility are the major keys to a more efficient and less corrupt system. One thing we should add to our education is to teach how to be responsible which clearly is excluded in our schools. This course should be designed for students, teachers, adminsitrators and even janitors to attend. We need "responsibility awareness" reform!

I grew up in Sullivan County, there was definitely no such waste. Every year our school budgets were voted down and every year we had shortages of text books and supplies.

big boss's wont ever cut their salary back, they figure hey we can go without 1-3 people and the other's will have to just do more work for the same amount of money, but then again there are alot of job's they could cut, starting with road crews, i have never seen where they needed 10 guys on a job and only 2 of them are working, what are the other 8 for, and sorry if you have a state job, but state jobs have way too many paid vacation days. we just lost 2 paid sick days and 2 vacation days at work, figure better too lose that then lose a job
