101 is a normal temp for a dog.. sounds like he has a parasite or worms.. that is just a guess.. if he isn't drinking.. get him to the hospital asap

I am not sure what vet you use but as far as many in Suffolk they are few and far between with good ones. If you need an emergency vet though in Selden the 24hr Emergency hospital is great. We had to take our 6 yo girl there when she was a puppy. She had a blockage. The surgeon was awesome, staff was super. It is $$ but they do depend on us for their care in return for companionship.

Good luck. Hope the puppers makes a speedy recovery.

Hey Duke. I hope everything works out for your pup.
I use Levittown Animal Hospital. If it's not too far of a drive, I fully recommend them.

Is canned pumpkin a good recommendation? I was recommended pumpkin when my dog had the runs... But I'm not a vet.

trust me i know this first hand.i had a australian shepherd which had a tumor.instead of just removing it a biapse it they firsat cut a small bit out which cost me a fortune..then thet removed it which cost me a fortune.then after it was removed i noticed a huge mass now on the side of his head.i took him back a few hours later and they told me it was liquid built up rom the surgury and would go away after a couple of days.2 days later it was massive and they told me another tumor grew.WHAT in 2 days a giant tumor grew.anyeay the mass closed up his windpipe and he died..after 2000 dollars and **** vet i lost my dog at home..i wont mention the vet but it was on montauk hwy.then i took my lab in for his physical and she has a fatty chest which looks strange but ive seen it on other labs and the woman vet said "wow thats weird"i wanted to ask her if that was her medical opinion but i didnt.anyway i took her to another vet and its nothing

Duke - glad to hear the progress. If it is giardia, as DrCooper thinks, make sure to sanitisize anything that came into contact with that dog - blankets, carpet, etc - and make sure you wash your hands really well ( double for your son ) as giardia ( Dr.Cooper correct me if I am wrong and there are separate types for dogs ) is a common GI parasite of humans ( its one of the freebies you get at daycare ) and can cause smelly diarhea in humans.

Like my dog when he was a pup I forget what it was but it sounds exactly the same, took him to the 24/7 hospital in bay ridge, brooklyn. I know many pets that had their lives saved by them. At the time 10 years ago it ran me about $900 for his stay there. i think he got something from smelling other dogs poo maybe and one of the shots they get is supposed to protect them from it. Anyway hope the lil guy recovers okay.
