ME!
I WAS MADE IN THE USA!
AND THE OLD FASHIONED WAY TOO, IN THE BACK SEAT OF A GOOD OLD AMERICAN MADE CHEVROLET WITH THE 8-TRACK PLAYING AFTER HAVING A FEW BUDWEISERS!

Not like the youngsters of today, with their foreign cars and condoms and medical ways and pills and motel rooms made to look like european countries and jungles (yes, some LI motels have "theme" rooms LOL) and fancy drugs and clothes and their boom boom music blasting from their SONY High Def stereos and TVs and MP3 players and all while eating their imported fancy foods and drinking imported beers that cost $7 a glass and wearing their new moon boot looking sneakers made in asian sweatshops.

Now, where the hell is my American furniture! LOL!

Is road construction an Union job? I always see couple guys carrying poles, hammering things while 7 sitting drinking coffee on BQE. Of course, there are times the reverse is true too.

I do think there are places for Union but I also see problems with them. However, I see more problems with the labor laws or favoritism towards Unions in labor court cases. Note: I never think employers are angels either. There are good apples and bad apples in any types of organizations-be it Union or a school, a person....

In particular, I have worked in a case of a resturant being forced to bankruptcy three times by the Union and the trustees(all three times) agreed by the Unions were "robbing"(takes forever to explain why I use the word robbing) the company more money than the orginal owners everytime. I have gone thru over 20 cabinets of legal document for this case. I see the Union overly using their leverage, the Labor Dept. field attorney may have been bribed as I have evidence that he/she intentionally misintrepret the court order to scare potential buyers other than the ones agreed by the Union, the original owners cheating taxes, trustees agreed by the Union robbed the company even more money(hence bankrupt again).... The whole thing boils down to the conclusion that any individual or entity has its own bad apples and good apples. However, in my heart, the leverage an Union has, can easily corrupt a good man. It takes a better man to resist the temptation.

I second Killer's opinion of era shifting is the real issue, not immigrants(legal or illegal).

BTW, what is the average general labor rate in New York nowadays? In kansas, my stone workers gets $120-$150 per day of 9 hours shift. Apprentice gets $80

I am not sure what type of furniture you are looking for, by my mom has her stuff made in Ohio by the Amish. She tells them things like the end use and dimensions, shows them pictures of what she likes, and picks out a wood sample. I think the last thing she had made was an oak island thingy on wheels for the kitchen. It was very nicely done at a reasonable cost.

lol leslie i almost forgot about that, in the mid-west there are several amish furniture builders, indiana and ohio and penn have alot of amish:tongue1: and they still ride horse and buggy's. and wingro i totally agree, but as i stated most union guys will never believe it even if shown in print. as long as the union is always after higher wages the workers dont care what else is effected or what goes on.

timber and your a prime example of a union guy who doesnt believe there is corruption in the union, always looking to defend it, dont blame you guys that are union, but asstated i grew up in a union family in all different fields, had the chance to join union years back, chose not too, guess stupid me, cause i could be making double what i make now, yes i have, can i go get a print proving it ? no, if i could sure people would be out of jobs and in court, can you prove they aren't ? and none of my questions asked of you union workers was shown either, not saying unions havent done any good, and i dont blame the actual worker's. but the union itself doesnt do care about you, only in what they can get. btw my father-in-law that lives with me is a retired union worker

Rick,

Tell me where in this world you can find an organization that is not corrupt in some way or another? I never stated I was a "union guy who doesnt believe there is corruption in the union" those were your words. And till the day I cash my last pension check I'll "always looking to defend it"

Remember at the end of the day the only person who cares what happens to you and you family is you. You think your bosses at Honda keep you there for your good looks. You work hard to be the best at what you do, you think they would still keep you if they could find someone as good for less money? Knowing your monthly family expenses would you take the pay cut (in normal economic times) or go some where else?

Of course there are slackers, but 9 out of 10 times it's because they're someone's relatives. What I'm supposed to do; fire the owner's son-in-law or the union delegates brother?

I don't see anyone complain about stuff made in Europe (think Ikea). And you think Ikea furniture ain't cheap? It seems that ppl only complain when things are made in Asia. Ugh...

Can you tell me which one of their junk particle board, use once furniture is made in Europe?

Also, when they say it's made in China, it's really just engineered in the US, and let the cheap Chinese labor crank out the final products.

What percentage of stuff sold in target and walmart is engineered in the USA?

Btw my skimmer is made in Hong Kong and it kicks ass. Those who has seen it can vouch for that.
Is that skimmer their innovation and design? or just something they copied?

Cheap products are what people want to buy and big cooperation that are driven by profit will sell what people want to buy. Look at WalMart, they started out as a small town farm store in Arkansa, the family owned business were smart enough to give people what they want at the cheapest price. Most if not all WalMart stores are located at or close to mid to low income neighborhoods, catering to blue collar workers (union man?), they would not do so well if all of these american union workers are so true to their union brothers. Where was the union asking their membership to stop the trend years ago? they were too busy negotiating better job security for exsisiting union members while not adding more jobs because manufacturing was being shipped overseas.

To keep my post on topic, there are no american made furniture in Walmart :lol2:.

BTW, I am Chinese and buys stuff made in Asia regularly, my comments are not meant to be anti-Asian. I also was in two of the biggest american air transport unions, they didn't do anything for me, other than helped backruped the airlines I was working for at the time. And YES, I have seen and been on jobs where 2 junior union man are working and 5 senior union man drank coffee and watch (or slept), they were the so called "safety man" or shop stu. I hate the part where they made me stop working and wait for another trades man to come out to disconnect a canon plug, this is all to protect jobs but reducing productivity. Go IAM and TWU!!
