Recession Really???

I am in the process of looking for someone to install Laminate flooring in my house. It is about 400 sq. ft. At $3 a sq. ft. (for labor) that comes to $1200.
This job should take about 1 day to complete(maybe Less)
I have had people flake on coming over to give a estimate twice. One on Monday & One on Tuesday, and one other did not even call after I contacted him.
I gotta tell you. If I had a chance to make 1200 dollars in one day ( possibly minus 250 to pay 2 guys) that is about a grand for the day.
I would be all over it.
I really cant believe that the construction trade is that saturated with jobs right now.
And never mind the recession. 1000 dollars a day in a good economy is nothing to sneeze at.

LMK if you have Exp. at this and want to make a grand or so to do the job.

in all honesty a grand isn't alot of money, your suppling all the materials ? is there anything on the floor now ? floors completely level. big dfference between easy and it looking proffesional when done

i put ads on craigslist for whatever i need done. i just got a complete kitchen with a load bearing wall removed and support beam installed for 9 grand. the only thing i still need is a stainless fridge. i had 74 responses in 14 minutes. i had to delete the ad.

the problem is usually not finding some1 to do the job, but finding some1 that can and will do a good and efficient job. there r many horror stories on botch jobs and people getting scam and/or robbed

well, you don't give any money up front, and you check references. that'a given.

btw- that corner drawer isn't a drawer. it's a space filler. it was either that or a little worthless shelf thing..

i work with a GC and have the same problem all the time even in this economy. they take long to give you a proposal and estimates forget about it. thye wont even look unless they are trying to get 6 to 8 bucks to put flooring down.

You get what you pay for.. Botched jobs come from low paid workers.. If you can't pay the standard you should DIY.. Read up on it and take your time... Good luck with it..
