What happens to the pigeons sent out on those long races that don't make it the full distance? Do they just turn around and come back early?
And I understand how they get home, but how do they know where and how far to go on the outward toss? Or do you mean you just travel 500 miles with them and then toss them and hope they make it back home?
As for the ones that dont make it home the same day or come back late those birds are done away with.

Its a sport so they have to come home on time. Theres big money in these races so if a bird comes late what good is that.
