This is the time of year that they raise rates every year. No big surprise, the warm weather is here this is what always happens. There are alternate fuel sources that you can explore that may help lower your bill. Have you looked into solar?

They said on the news it is a 12% increase, that is nuts. Glad I am not in the city. What comes into question is why did rates not go down when oil was $40 a barrel and what did they do with the extra cash they made then? this is the problem with utility monopolies.

The rates only go up when the Public Service Commission approve the increase. As a regulated entity Coned can only ask for a rate increase to maintain the cost of service plus a fair rate of return for investors. A three year rate case is actually good because even if expenses go up for the company they cannot pass them along every year to the consumer. The average increase comes to $3.15 for residential customers per month.

Ouch! $650! We pay $80.00 a month, but we get to bid on our carrier. And if another carrier approaches us with a lower price, our current carrier will match it. Do all of you guys have to use Con Ed? They sound like rip-offs to me.
