well I went to see a hand surgeon/specialist today
cuts seem to be healing ok. my hand is badly bruised in the knuckle area
(doc asked if I punched a window) because of the swelling he cant say for sure if I did or didnt do any tendon damage. he wants to see me next week and further evaluate my injury. he made me a nifty new splint that I can take on and off much more comfortable than the plaster cast

Sounds good so far Frank. At least he didn't tell you any tendons are lacerated at this time. Good luck. Like I offered in the last thread, LMK if you need any help with anything.

Feel better soon,

Sometimes it's hard to tell with a lot of swelling and brusing because of the pain caused by both of these which makes it difficult to tell if you cannot extend the digit because of pain or because of discontinuity of the extensor tendon. Usually re-evaluate in a week when swelling and bruising has decreased.

Sounds like you didn't catch them though which is good. Splint is a nice thing because it rests the tendons. You're probably splinted in the 'position of function' which is flexion at the mcp joints (knuckle) with extension at the interphalageal joints (the other two joints past the knuckle). Keeps the tendons at their normal resting length. Keep your splint on, ice and elevate your hand on a couple of pillows to keep swelling down and wait for your next appointment for re-evaluation. :) Good luck with everything.

good luck nypd....my brother fractured his pinky over the summer and it swelled up black and blue...but everything is back to normal now. So don't stress the bruising too much even though it looks awful. You don't realize how much you rely on your pinky for hand movements (typing and shaking people's hand... :)) until something like this happens. That lil' fella comes in handy (no pun intended :sleepy: )! Get well soon.

Funny thing is that the worst injury I got was from an acrylic tank. ;-) I was gluing two sheets together and when I went to pick it up my hand got sliced on one of the sharp edges. Go figure... I'll take a cut from sharp acrylic over one from a glass tank any day though.

Hope your hand heals OK.
