Bzzzz! Tell ya what- the bees here have been unbelievable for the past month! In the worst sort of way, too. Huge bee explosion in South central WI.

Here is a wacky looking insect that showed up at my boatyard today. I think she is cool and wanted to keep her as a pet. Go figure. Anyway, I just left her alone as that seemed like the sensible thing to do.

Here is another kewl buggy

At first we thought this was a hummingbird as it flies exactly like one, it never got close enough to get a really good shot, and it flitted all over the place so I took 10 pics and this is the best one. The really interesting thing is that this bugs Probiscus was like 1.25 inches long and it uncurled it while flying and poked it down into the flower. Most amazing looking thing I have ever seen

its a katiedid and in NY its a 50 dollar fine to kill them...

It's a Katydid. Related to grasshoppers and crickets. We have lots of those in the midwest.

katie dids and praying mantis are protected in NYS... although i think its helping as this year i saw tons of praying mantis... wich is great... gotta love annoyance killers and there mean lookin too.. hopefully if i ever get my nikon back ill get a good photo of one and post it up here...

Hes, that hopper is fantastic! I love it!

I had a chance to shoot a nice big grasshopper Wisco-style last night, but my dog ate it. Well, chewed on it a few times anyway. I guess I could have shot that, but it was pretty gross. Might have been an interesting color essay for my camera, though. :lol:
