GOOD LORD MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never seen a clam that big before. Unless the camera really adds 10lbs... Very nice. How long did you say you had it? How long has your tank been set up?

Hmmm, I've had it prob about 4 years I think and the tank has been setup in some form or another for around 6 years. It really is a huge clam. The guys from work love to come visit and see it, and the nassarius too of course.

Let me see if I can find a picture of it when I had it at the store a few years ago.

Wow, when I see these I can't believe how much bigger the clam has gotten in just two years. This looks small to me now!

LOL my wife asked me if I wanted to pull it out last night while she took pics of me holding it but I decided against it. It's really big and holds a crap load of water. That's one of the draw backs to it. When something spooks it, I end up with around a gallon of water on the floor in front of the tank. Doesn't happen often, but enough to be annoying.

Where it is also used to be a nice thick piece of flat liverock I made. Made an awesome shelf and cave. The clam got so heavy it eventually snapped that piece of rock in half and collapsed it.

That stinks. I guess it makes sense being it is so big. I would hate to come home to that periodic suprize. I'll bet comparing the old pic to a new one in your hands would be an amazing difference. I never seen a clam as a center piece before, but it is actually a cool focal point.

Yeah I should get it together and take a whole tank pic so people can see how large it is in the tank.

LOL maybe I am the only one that wondered if you were talking about the clam or not.

Awesome clam, your going to need a bigger tank soon!

OK don't mind the glass, I didn't bother to clean it. Terrible picture but you get the idea.

really cool. Man you have a lot of stuff in there. I'll bet stuff just keeps on multiplying and you dont even have the need to add anything else. What kind of lighting do you have running?

Oh and Ben, looking back at the quote yeah that thought ran through my mind..lol

LOL the tank has taken quite a beating cause of neglect from a very busy summer.

Lighting is a 400w Reeflux in the middle, 2x250 w of the same on either side and 2x160w VHO actinics. If I cleaned up a bit and took a better picture it would be nicer but I just didn't have the motivation with the kids screaming at my ankles.

I like it. Islanders might also like it because it looks delicious :D

Mmmm, sushi :D

You guys are awful. Clams are our friends! But seriously I visited a clam farm in micronesia and the clams they produce are all released into the wild reefs. Except twice a year they give a bunch to the locals to discourage them from taking them out of the wild. I thought it was pretty cool, and it seems to be working out.

Dnorton that is one of the nicest derasa's I've seen. I've been waiting to find a good one to add to my tank but haven't seen one that nice in the LFS yet. Congrats!

JustPhish that clam is amazing. I've never seen one in a home aquarium anywhere near that size and I think it proves you're doing a great job with your tank. Awesome specimen.

Well put it this way. Way back I got it, it was around 12 inches or so and was being offered for $500.

Yep, mine is just shy of 2 feet. Once it hits two feet I am just going to remove it and tank it in a 300 gallon stock tank. Unless of course I have my 800 gallon tanks by then. ;)
