never add salt directly to your tank. measure your cups into the 5 gallion bucket so you know how much you have to make every time. also if your salinity is low in the tank add water that has a slightly higher salinity to bring it back up

If you want to raise the salinity in your tank, you can do one or all of the following, gradually of course:

1 - the water you mix in water change, set to a higher salinity level to offset
2 - after the water change, put in a little more water than your normal water level after each water change (essentially same as #3)
3 - top off with pre-mixed salt water as needed, but I would monitor this daily if you are doing this step

when your water level drops u must add freshwater b/c salt doesnt evaporate

when you do your water changes, remove the amount of water from your tank. Then mix new water in 5 gallon bucks , once the salt level in the buck matches the levl in ur tank and the salt has dissolved, add it to the tank.

If your trying to bring ur salt levl up in ur tank. Lets say its 1.22 and you want 1.25, make ur water changes like 1.23-1.24 and it shold bring it up slowly

why is everyone making this so confusing?

either user a higher salinity water when doin a water change (to raise the average salinity of your tank gradually to the desired level)
or just top-off your evaporation with salt water till your sality reaches the desired level (at which point of course you would return to fresh water top-offs)
