clownfish beeing too shy

hey guys, i have a clown i got about 5 days ago, and its still hiding in the corner over one of my pumps or under the return from my filter in my nano. Everything is fine water quality wise, and i know this is normal for a week or two till he gets used to the tank. He eats and everything but is there a way i could get him out into the opening, maybe giving him a tankmate, would that help?

Anyways Planning on hitting up the LFS later today after class to see what they have in and maybe get another fish if they have anything. Not trying to rush him, but it makes me sad watching him tread through water tryign to stay in one corner or another.

If your tank environment is good enough to keep anemone, I would put a green bulb anemone. A lot of the times, it will lure the clown to it.

last thing i want is a anemone running around rampant in my tank. Well i did but i can;t find one that stays small for my 24g. Plus its going to limit my coral selection, heard they need room around them. I dunno, i feel bad for the little guy.

Actually buying an anenome on the basis of luring a clownfish is the worst thing Ive ever heard someone doing or advising, they need special lighting, exceptional water quality, and strong water movement. mustve been a brainfart.

Are there any other fishes that have been acting agressively, usually this happens with Wild caught fishes, do you know if he was? just try giving him some time and offer him some food to eat, usually they get accustomed to the tank.

BTW there are many things a clown will host, from poweheads like kris said, to torches, hammers, and xenia

The more hiding places you give a fish the more comfortable they are in your tank and the more they will be out. I would never....ever put an anemone in a nano tank...ever. I don't even sell anemones to people who don't have atleast a 75 with PC lighting and great filtration. Most of the time they don't last very long at all in most peoples tanks who don't know how to care for them. Also, like DRZL said, clowns really aren't picky when it comes to hosting stuff we used to have a small tomato that hosted in a 4" crocea and it used to scare me every time. Just imagine the clown getting the clam to close on it then they both freak out.......2 dead animals. The clam never seemed to mind though it was kind of weird. You can even get fake anemone type stuff to put in there the clown might host it if you want to go that route.

So I guess you guys have problem keeping anemone then. So you do not agreed that anemones need less light than sps and they do not like strong water movement then. :scratchch

OK everyone back to topiccccccc... on why his clownfish is so shy.... :lol2: it happens man no biggie.. u no not to purchase a anemone (smart thinking) and try to move that powerhead in a few days if the clownfish does not leave it, it might be hosting it like nanoreefers did in his tank... give it a couple of more days..

is the clownfish eating when u feed the tank

woah this thread came way out of topic, the fish is eating, and prefers only the red flakes and loves the mysis if any float near his corner=0)

Little surprise is i see he has a personality. i got my ric today and was placing that and a few blue polyps i got of a small frag (found two baby feather dusters which was a nice little surprise!!) and he was following me along the glass as i was working. then he would hang out along the side of the glass my computer room is while i was in there, when i popped my head out he would swim towards the glass at me. pretty funny, hope he wasn't doing it for more food =0(

think he will be fine and thanks for all the info guys!
