Running a UV doesnt mean ur system is 100% protected. Your best bet is to always QT anything you place in your tank. a UV is by no means a cure-all. However if ur set on running one, I prefer Coralife UV's because they can be easily hooked up and changed out the bulbs.

UV's will help clean up your water, by stopping algae outbreaks. It will prevent free flowting paracites/bacteria. However anything in ur sand, on ur rock or on fish will not be stopped.

i think you'll be fine with 9-18watts. Personally I like the Coralife UV's. Easy to change out bulbs, Adapt to lots of tubing sizes, and a pretty good price. All you have to do is cut your return pipes, run them into ur UV and ur set. Coralife also comes w/ mounting brakets so you can mount it to ur stand.

How much you feed as nothing to do with the UV.

I use a 9watt on my 50 gallon, one of the best upgrades I did for my tank. Everyone I have talked into getting one was very happy with the results. It is, like most types of filtration, a double edged sword. You will be destroying the good with the bad but the pros far outweigh the cons and there are ways of reducing possible negatives.
