Unfortunately with my terror son, ( I say that with the utmost love for him), I am unable to do the auto top off. But I will be adding that as soon as I can. So for now I'll have to be the auto top off.

Based on the dimensions of the sump, a 2" decrease with that footprint would equal 2 gallons (no accounting for anything else that displaces water, such as a skimmer, return pump, or other random items). Mark your starting level, and the level that seems to be where you drop to daily. Measure it to be sure it really is 2" and see if by measuring of the amount of top off water you replace, 2 gallons is correct. Or, instead of calculating volumes, just mark the high water level you want to maintain, and fill to the mark daily. Just be sure to have around 2 gallons of RO water around each day.:biggrin:

When adding RO water stricty for top off with no salt added, will my PH be altered in any way? Am I going to have to add a PH buffer?

no. but a good thing to do with your topoff is to use kalk.

But not if you're going to add 2 gallons at once.

If you have the funding, look into a litermeter pump for top off.
