Seahorse question

I just had 2 quick questions on seahorses. What is the minimum size tank 1 seahorse can be in and is it better to have them in pairs? in that case what size would the tank need to be?

It mostly depends on the species. The dwarves can be in a smaller tank but the larger species will need larger tanks. I had two H. Reidi in a 29 gallon a couple years back and it worked out great. One other thing is the height of the tank is a big factor. From what I read the taller the better. Werent the people who are now experts begginers at some point? Im researching before I even start and I thought the tank size would be the best place to start, then equipment i need, how to take care of em etc.... The only way to learn is read and do.

A 30 cube is ideal for seahorses. They need height more so than width to thrive www.seahorse.org is a great resource for info!

Hello there Chris.
You can keep one seahorse in a much smaller tank that that. Actually a smaller tank is better for seahorses as it is easier for them to find or catch food. They are used to just hanging around waiting for food to come to them. You can watch them doing that out on the east end of Long Island. They will just hang onto a blade of seagrass and catch whatever goes by. You can easily keep one or two in a ten gallon tank. They live in mated pairs but you can just as easily keep one.
