I'm still in the process of getting my water parameters adjusted after two weeks of cycling (ammonia to 0mg, nitrite is now down to .3mg) and I'm wondering if I need to be concerned with upping my aeration/water movement. I'm using an Eclipse 6 tank with the biowheel, but is that enough oxygen moving around? My last water change I put in a little bit less that the suggested water line, so the slight waterfall effect is visibly sending air bubbles deep into my tank, which I'm assuming is a good thing. However, could the same effect be better produced from a bubble wand? Or is that not appropriate for a tank that will eventually hold some frags?

You probably have enough air. However, bubbles in the water column mean salt creep gets everywhere. A small powerhead agitating the surface should be fine.

Since nanos have become more popular, there are plenty of smaller powerheads on the market.

You can put a whole lot of flow into a small tank as long as you play with the flow enough. It also helps if you do not have sand...

Originally I had two 100gph hang on filters along with two aquaclear 30's on my 10g nano (100+100+174+174 = 548gph). I then upgraded when a aquaclear 70 hang on filter fell in my lap (300+174+174 = 648). As of today, I upgraded my two aquaclear 30 powerheads to a maxijet 400 mod that fell into my lap (300+700+ =~1000+ gph). The only problem is the maxijet is much more visually present then the aquaclears; if I got rid of all my sand, I could put it in a maxijet 1200 and get 2000gph+ and hide the maxijet behind the rock (maybe I will eventually).

What I am trying to say is you usually cannot have to much flow; however, you might have some issues with the visual weight of certain powerheads. I have had great luck with the aquaclears, both in size and in longevity.

I have to ask about your signature Pika, an oatmeal savage?

Thanks everyone, I'm definitely going to look into getting the powerheads; I'll look for some aquaclears.

I saw the "I am an Oatmeal Savage" on a Scottish bumpersticker. I thought it was hilarious because I have Scottish roots and I love oatmeal :)
