Welcome to Reefs Beginners — we’re glad you’re here!

We can help way faster (and with better answers) if you post in the right format. Here’s the quick guide:

1) New tank / planning your first reef?

Post here first:
New Reefer Track: Post Your Plan + Get a Setup Check (2 minutes)
https://reefs.com/forum/reefs-begin...st-your-plan-get-setup-check-2-minutes-1.html

That thread walks you through the basics and gets you a step-by-step plan before you spend money (or add livestock).

2) Need help RIGHT NOW? (Emergency prefix)

If something is crashing, a fish is in trouble, or you’re seeing ammonia/nitrite issues:

  • Create a new thread in this forum and choose the Emergency prefix.
  • Include (even rough numbers help):
    • Tank size + age
    • Temperature + salinity
    • Ammonia / nitrite / nitrate (and the test kit brand)
    • What livestock is affected
    • Clear photos/video if possible
Tip: If you can only do one thing: post a full tank photo + your latest test results and we’ll triage from there.

3) “What is this?” (Algae / pest / coral issue) — ID prefix

If you need an ID (algae, pest, weird growth, coral problem):

  • Create a new thread and choose the ID prefix.
  • Please include:
    • A close-up photo + a wider tank shot
    • How long the tank has been running
    • Lighting schedule (hours/day)
    • Nitrate + phosphate (and test kit brand)

4) A couple quick community notes

  • There are often multiple “right” ways to reef — we’ll help you pick the safest one for your tank and goals.
  • Stability beats perfection. Don’t chase numbers.
  • If you’re new, it’s totally normal to hit the “ugly phase.” You’re not failing.

Ready?
If you’re just starting, click the New Reefer Track link above and post your plan. If you need urgent help, start a new thread with the Emergency prefix.

(And welcome again — you’re in the right place.)
